Kicking things off this week with a free ticket giveaway! On Saturday night, the ROAM crew celebrate their 17th event with perhaps their biggest one yet, with headliners Objekt, the mighty Helena Hauff and friend of the family, TV Lounge resident and all round great DJ Loren, supported by residents DJ Lisa Frank, Jett Chandon and Rush Plus. Throw in proper sound and a serious warehouse location, and you’ve got all the ingredients for an amazing night on the dance floor. DC House Grooves has partnered with the ROAM crew to give away a pair of tickets worth $50 to one lucky winner. Just click the link below, fill out the form, and we’ll pick a winner at random on Saturday afternoon. Please make sure you enter your real full name and email address, as we’ll be contacting the winner by email, and you will need to show your ID on entry to receive your prize.
Ok, before I get into news about everything else this weekend, something to look forward to on Memorial Day weekend. I know many of you will be heading to Detroit for Movement Festival and all the associated shenanigans, but for those of you sticking around here in DC, how does 13 hours dancing in the sunshine with a line up of top house DJs on one of the best rooftops in town sound? Our new summer rooftop party series in association with Roots & Spirits and Vibe, Beats Maneuver, kicks off on Sunday May 27 with headliner Gigi Testa and local support from KayLaSoul & Andrew Hogans, plus Beats Maneuver residents Ramirez, Kochi, myself (Andy Grant) and Katrina Mir. Quality house music, open to close! Advanced tickets are on sale now over on Resident Advisor, with a limited number of $5 early birds if you move fast. Please support this inaugural event, and help us set the stage for a fun summer on the rooftop! We’ll be bringing some serious international and local talent to the Public Bar rooftop in the coming months, so join us at the start of something special!
No Meet the Locals Podcast this week, so for this week’s mix I’ve got the recording of the one year anniversary of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio with me, Katrina Mir & Ramirez, recorded at DC House Grooves HQ this past Saturday. If you want to hear what Beats Maneuver is all about, then check out this show by three of it’s residents. Quality underground house music all the way!
OK here are my DC House Grooves Top Picks for this weekend, Thursday through Sunday. Just click the link to see a list of all the good stuff for each day.
So much good stuff in there, it’s going to be tough to choose! Thursday night kicks off with the latest edition of Chadwick‘s Headroom Listening Sessions at Flash, where you can hear the latest productions from DC’s many talented producers showcased on Flash‘s Funktion One sound system. If you’re an aspiring producer yourself, it’s a great way to network with other local producers, and if you’re not, it’s a great way to hear amazing new tracks, hot off the press. Four tracks premiered at HEADROOM recently have charted on Beatport, including one that reach #1 in the techno chart and #4 in the sales chart, so get yourself down there to hear what’s going to be putting DC on the map in the coming months!

In terms of other highlights this weekend, Playlist with Jubilee & Ramirez at Eighteenth Street Lounge is always a great bet for Thursday nights, then on Friday there’s so much to choose from, I don’t know where to start. At Flash, the man, the legend Danny Tenaglia makes his Flash debut with support from Navbox. It’s gonna be a packed house, make no mistake, so be sure you pick up advanced tickets if you want to reserve your spot on the dance floor. If proper techno in a warehouse with a banging sound system is more your cup o’tea, then put Sequence.313_DJ Stingray on your itinerary. The Sequence crew have assembled another incredible line up, featuring DJ Stingray, Aurora Halal, local hero & Discwoman member Juana, Theta Flux & Associate. This one’s an official Movement Festival pre-party, and with sound by Grand Ancestor, you know you’re gonna feel it!
Saturday night, all roads lead to ROAM XVII, but before that, I recommend hitting up either DeWalta with Jubilee at Flash, The NeedleXchange: 5 Years Wrong with Clark Price at Zeba Bar or An Evening with DJs LoveGrove, J Mack, & Guillermo Giraldo at Jimmy Valentine’s. All fantastic options to get yourself warmed up for the warehouse.
On Sunday, another edition of Sunday Love at Flash brings Martin Buttrich to the rooftop, with support from Sarah Myers, Jubilee & Conscious Contact, while over at El Techo, Sticky Fingers‘ Hot Coffee joins TNX‘s Bil Todd for an afternoon of sunny underground grooves. As always, Eighteenth Street Lounge should be your final destination to close out the weekend, with Sam Burns, Keenan Orr and another edition of Sundays Rooftop with Francis Harris and Benoit.
That’s it for this week. I’ll be back, same time, same place next week with news on all the best underground house and electronic music events in and around Washington DC, Thursday through Sunday. See you on the dance floor!
