Before I get into it this week, I want to give a big shout to the Sequence crew for a legit party up at the warehouse spot last Friday with Juana, Aurora Halal, Theta Flux, DJ Stingray and Associate. While I couldn’t stay too long, I was there early in the evening, and they filled that place up real quick with true heads, and I could tell it was going to be a really special evening. If well curated techno is your thing, keep an eye out for Sequence events; legit warehouse vibes for lovers of the real shit. Make sure you like the Sequence Facebook Page to be kept up to date with news of future Sequence events.
On to this weekend, and it’s a fairly quiet one here in DC, as many of our friends make the annual pilgrimage to Detroit for the Movement festival and all the associated shenanigans. If, like me, you can’t make it this year, don’t worry, while it’s a little quieter than usual, there’s still plenty to keep you dancing Thursday through Sunday, right here in DC.
The big news for DC House Grooves this weekend is the launch of our new event in partnership with Roots & Spirits, Vibe and Public Bar, Beats Maneuver. We’ve assembled an incredible line up for a 13 hour rooftop extravaganza from 3pm right through to 4am, featuring World Peace Music‘s Gigi Testa, with support from KayLaSoul, Andrew Hogans, Ramirez, Kochi, Andy Grant (that’s me!) & Katrina Mir. There’s no work on Monday, so no excuses! The perfect opportunity to cut loose and groove out Sunday afternoon into Monday morning. Cover is just $5 from 3pm to 6pm, then just $10 after, and we’ll be donating a portion of the proceeds to Friends of Puerto Rico, so you’ll be getting down for a great cause. We’ve also got limited number of $5 early birds available over at Resident Advisor, so if you plan on coming late, but only want to pay $5, grab yours now!
To celebrate the launch of Beats Maneuver, DC House Grooves is giving away three spots on the guest list to one lucky winner, so if you want to be on the list + 2 for Sunday, enter our free prize draw! Remember to leave your real name and email address, as we’ll need to contact you to let you know you’ve won, and you’ll need to show your ID to claim your prize. When you fill out the form, you can also subscribe to the DC House Grooves mailing list. We promise not to spam you; we’ll just send you the occasional email letting you know what’s coming up from DC House Grooves.
We hope you can join us on Sunday for what promises to be the start of something special. We’ve got dates scheduled through to the end of the summer, featuring great out of town and local talent, so join us on Sunday and be there from the start. To all DJs and promoters who I’ve supported over the years through DC House Grooves, why not return the favor and lend a bit of support to DC House Grooves? Would be great to hang out, have a few beers and get down to some quality house music!
As I mentioned above, Sunday is just the beginning for Beats Maneuver. Our next date at Public Bar is June 3 with Trinidadian Deep working his magic on the rooftop. Check next week’s DC House Grooves for full line up details.
Ok here at this week’s Top Pick links. Click the link for each day to see my full list of Top Picks for that day over on Facebook. Easy access to all the best events!
Plenty to choose from, but if I had to pick my highlights, D’Julz with Wade Hammes at Flash and Playlist with Jubilee, Ramirez and special guest Rosenberg top the list for Thursday.
On Friday night, start your night off right with the WTF?! Radio Show Beats Maneuver Edition featuring two of our Beats Maneuver residents DJ Kochi and Katrina Mir, giving you a taste of what to expect on the rooftop this Sunday. Tune in from 5pm ET at www.sugarshackrecordings.com. Out and about on Friday, I recommend checking out U Sleaze with Keenan Orr, Lemz & Outputmessage at U Street Music Hall, or head over to Backbar for The Speakeasy Disco with Dee Clarke, Sparse Cholesky & Kenny M.
On Saturday night, we’ll be broadcasting on Underground Quality Radio live from DC House Grooves HQ with a very special Beats Maneuver Edition of the DC House Grooves Show, with me, Ramirez and Katrina Mir.
Out on the town, I recommend checking out Jandro & Mike Harvey at El Techo on Saturday afternoon, then on Saturday night head to Flash for Bedrock legend John Digweed with Dexx, Steve Kirn, Mike Harvey, Jake Clemens & Randy Masiello.
For those of you reading this in Baltimore, look no further than Factory 17, where The Elders join forces with Guillermo Giraldo for a night of solid vibes open to close. $5 before 12, $10 after.
Plenty of great events to choose from to celebrate Memorial Day Sunday, what with Jimmy Valentine’s 11 Year Anniversary, Sunday Love at Flash, and The Clubhouse Reunion, but Beats Maneuver at Public Bar is where the party is gonna be at! See you on the dance floor!
