DC House Grooves Top Picks of the Best Underground House and Electronic Music Events in Washington DC August 9 to August 12

Another big weekend heading our way, and as always, your weekly guide DC House Grooves has news on all the best underground house, techno, drum and bass and other electronic music events in town, Thursday through Sunday. I’m super excited this weekend, as we’ve got NYC’s hardest working DJ Rissa Garcia (Dancing Room Only NYC Nightchild Records) heading down our way to make her Washington DC debut at Beats Maneuver at Public Bar on Sunday. Rissa has been blazing a trail in NYC since 2004, regularly working with the likes of Danny TenagliaDanny KrivitTodd TerryLouis Vega, the list goes on and on. While you can catch Rissa spinning on any given weekend in New York, she has never made the trip to Washington DC before, so we at Beats Maneuver figured it was about time we fixed that! This Sunday brings the next edition of  Beats Maneuver, featuring Rissa alongside local favorites DJ Nav and Jandro and residents Katrina Mir, Kochi and yours truly, and best of all, it is absolutely FREE. That’s right, no cover all night long. Join us on the rooftop at Public Bar from 6pm ET and dance to real house music into the early hours of Monday morning. Really looking forward to Rissa bringing some NYC flavor to the Public Bar rooftop!beats maneuver rissa garcia

For a little taste of what to expect at Beats Maneuver this Sunday, here’s a recent mix from Rissa in her Nightchild Excursions series:

Plenty more mixes from Rissa over on her SoundCloud page. Check it out!

If you can’t wait until Sunday to throw some shapes on the dance floor, here are this week’s DC House Grooves Top Picks. Just click the link for each day to see what’s good.

DC House Grooves Top Picks of the Best Underground House and Electronic Music Events in Washington DC July 26 to July 29

Super fun times at U Street Music Hall last Friday opening up for Rush Plus and Anthony Naples. Massive thanks to the U Street Music Hall crew for inviting us to play. Some great events going down at U Hall lately, and super grateful to play a small part. We also had a great time getting down at Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club at Uncle Benny‘s 35th birthday celebrations with Detroit’s Daniel Andres. Always a fun time at Jimmy‘s, and Benoit and Daniel were bringing it big time! I’ve got to give a big shout to the  Sequence crew for another great event at the warehouse. Always a packed house at Sequence parties, and this one was no exception. Sadly I couldn’t stay as long as I wanted to due to a Saturday afternoon gig with the Elevate Rooftop Pool Party crew, but then that got postponed due to rain, so I should have stayed! Looking forward to the Sequence year two anniversary party with Adam X and R.Rose!

OK, before I get into this weekend in Washington DC, if any of our readers are in Boston this Friday, make sure you check out Roots & Spirits presents El Yunque Puerto Rico fund raiser with Ramirez & DashRok at Bella Luna Restaurant & Milky Way Lounge. That’s right! Our good friend, DC House Grooves Show resident Ramirez is taking things on the road to Boston this Friday, raising funds for Puerto Rico. For real house music in Boston from one of my favorite DJs this Friday, look no further than El Yunque.

Right, back to DC, and this weekend is all about the launch of the Grand Ancestor 2.0 Sound System. It’s Yola‘s 29th birthday, and to celebrate, the Grand Ancestor crew are launching their brand new sound system (more about that later) with not one, but two massive celebrations of the finest reggae and dub the nation’s capital has ever seen. DC House Grooves is getting in on the celebrations by giving away a pair of tickets to both the Friday night event AND the Saturday night event. For a chance to win, just click through to the entry form, enter your email address and full name and submit the form. We’ll pick one winner on Friday afternoon then another on Saturday afternoon, so there’s two chances to win! Please make sure you enter your correct email address and name, as we’ll need to email you to let you know you’ve won, and you’ll need your ID to claim your prize on the door.

I want to win tickets to the Grand Ancestor 2.0 celebrations!!!

Then on Saturday night, it’s back to the same spot for part 2 of the celebrations, with  . Downbeat the RulerTony Screw the Gold Finger, Johnny Go Figure and of course  Grand Ancestor with MC Husky. Another fine line up to get the stacks singing just right! I know I tend to focus on underground house and techno on DC House Grooves, but this is the music the Grand Ancestor sound system was built for, and you really need to experience it to understand! Whether you go Friday or Saturday, make sure you make time for Grand Ancestor this weekend.

So what’s the big deal with the Grand Ancestor 2.0 Sound System? If you’ve experienced the original Grand Ancestor stacks, then you know it ain’t no joke. Well, the new system is a one of a kind, custom designed 5 way system with 18 cabinets and 4 foot tall scoops. If you thought GA v1.0 was good, GA 2.0 is going to blow you away. Here are some exclusive pics to whet your appetite; if you want to see and hear the real thing on it’s debut outing, make sure you join the celebrations on Friday or Saturday!

Not sure what to expect from Grand Ancestor? Then check out the promo videos for their latest release, GA 013, plus the promos for GA 012 and GA 011. Each one a quality release! GA 013 is currently available from the Grand Ancestor Record Shop, and while  GA 012 is sold out pretty much everyone, there are a few copies left at the Grand Ancestor Record Shop if you move fast. Still no Meet the Locals podcast this week. Waiting on a striking sonic extravaganza for episode #69, but I guess there’s no rushing genius! Hopefully I’ll have it in time for next week’s post 🙂 In the mean time, here’s the video of last Saturday’s DC House Grooves  Show on Underground Quality Radio with me, Katrina Mir and special guests  Jubilee Kochi. Sadly Ramirez couldn’t be with us for this episode. He was up in Baltimore getting down to Joaquin “Joe” Claussell, so I can’t  blame him for not being with us. From what I hear Joe delivered straight up fire all night, but I digress. Despite the lack of Ramirez, we had a fun show. Always a good time throwing down with KatrinaJubilee and Kochi! The next DC House Grooves Show is on Saturday April 28. Mark it in your calendar, and tune in from 10pm ET at Underground Quality Radio or the Underground Quality Radio Facebook Page.

OK, here’s the links to this week’s DC House Grooves Top Picks. Just click the link for the day you’re interested in, and through the magic of the Internet, you’ll be transported to a list of my Top Picks for that day over on Facebook.
