OK, back in the saddle after last week’s run in with the flu. That shit was no joke; took me out of action completely for a whole week, and I’m still not quite 100%. In last week’s abbreviated post, I neglected to mention a seriously cool party from the previous weekend, LENG & INN(er)NET‘s shindig with DJ Lag on January 26. Great vibe, great crowd, plenty of raw energy in that room, with the Grand Ancestor system being worked to the max. Kudos to everyone involved for a great party. The LENG crew are at it again this weekend with some off the grid house party vibes featuring Dis Fig, all the way from from Berlin. RSVP here for location & info.
Katrina Mir and I will be holding down the bar at Flash on Friday night as party of an epic lineup including Paranoid London, Derek Plaslaiko, Steve Kirn, Detroit’s Alton Miller & Benoit. That’s one serious Friday night line up! Hope you can join us in the bar for at least some of the evening 🙂 Advanced tickets highly recommended.
Saturday night, we’ll be making up for our cancelled DC House Grooves Show on Underground QualityRadio with a make up show. Tune in from 10pm ET on the Underground Quality website, or catch the video feed on the Underground Quality Radiofacebook page.
If you’re heading out on the town Saturday night, I highly recommend Grand Ancestor meets Moonshine Records with Radikal Guru, Bukkha, Blind Prophet & Grand Ancestor. Hear the Grand Ancestor Sound System as it’s meant to be heard, awesome warehouse location, proper vibes all round. $10 door pressure all night, so the price is right. Experience a taste of proper sound system culture right here the nation’s capital.
Before I get to this week’s Top Picks, here’s a new DC House Grooves Meet the Locals Podcast from Werk Ethic resident Nick Garcia. Werk Ethic is a new party celebrating the very best in 90s house and techno, and Nick’s mix offers a blissful journey through big, classic house tunes from the 90s, including tracks from the likes of Masters at Work, Frankie Knuckles, Eddie Amador & more.
After kicking off Werk Ethic with an inaugural event at Ten Tigers Parlour last year, the next edition is at U Street Music Hall on February 23, with Nick Garcia & Ken Lazee at the controls, throwing down classics released before December 31, 1999. Promises to be an amazing night a U Hall!
Fun times last Thursday at Cadence! Katrina Mir and I had a super fun time throwing down in the Green Room at Flash for the Cadence crew alongside Sinestro & Simon. Thank you to everyone who came out to support, and thank you to the Cadence crew for inviting us to play! Other than that, we had a fairly quiet weekend, staying in on Saturday night for the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio with me, Katrina Mir and Ramirez. This show was a bit of a struggle at first, taking us a while to find our groove, but once we got into the swing of things the vibes started flowing. Check out the archive stream below and judge for yourself.
We’ll be back with the next DC House Grooves Show on Saturday February 3 at 10pm ET. Full details in next week’s post.
Here are the links for this week’s Top Picks, Thursday through Sunday. Some great events this weekend, so make sure you take the time to click through and take a look, and select Going for any events you plan on attending.
You can catch me and Katrina Mir broadcasting live from One Love Massive HQwith Wade Hammes, Jon Weller and O. Martinez on the latest edition of One Love Massive Factory Floor Sessions: NighFlight. Can’t wait to throw down with the Nightflight crew. Tune in from 6pm on the One Love Massive Facebook Page or One Love Massive YouTube page.
After we wrap up at One Love Massive, we’re heading over to the warehouse for L.E.N.G. and INN(er)NET present Durban to DC with Gqom King DJ Lag and support from Jessicunt, DJ Underdog, DJ Native Sun, L’Enfant, Benbo & Panch. Excited to hear some fresh sounds from one of South Africa’s finest on the amazing Grand Ancestor sound system. Advanced tickets highly recommended!
Saturday night, all roads lead back to the spot for Late Night Mischief, Early Morning Love, with Mazi R, Andy Grant, Katrina Mir & Team Zapata. The party kicks off at 11pm and goes until sunrise. Quality underground vibes from a killer all-local lineup. Cover is $10 before 2am, $20 after. Katrina Mir and myself will be rocking the joint around 1am to 3am, so don’t come too late!
Finally, I want to give a shout to my man Benoit, Uncle Benny himself, who’ll be holding down the patio at Eighteenth Street Lounge open to close for Sundays Rooftop, while Sam Burns and Smudge take care of business in the Gold and Main rooms. Always the best place to round out your weekend, ESL is the right move this Sunday.
OK – that’s it for this week. I hope I see you on the dance floor for Late Night Mischief, Early Morning Love on Saturday. Otherwise, no doubt I’ll run into you on the dance floor soon. I’ll be back net week, same time, same place, with news of all the best underground house and electronic music events in and around Washington DC, Thursday through Sunday.

Highlights on Thursday this week include the always amazing Jubilee & Ramirez at Playlist on the heated patio at Eighteenth Street Lounge, and Sarah Myers heating up happy hour at Preview in the green room at Flash. Stick around at Flash for Cadence with Makoto, Technimatic & Rubble in the main room, while Beatrix, Rob-One and the always amazing Tommy Cornelis take over the rooftop.
Friday night, get yourself warmed up for a night on the town by tuning in to the WTF?! Show on Sugar Shack Recordings with Kochi, Katrina Mir, Ramirez and me (Andy Grant). This time around we’re doing an all vinyl session, which promises to be a lot of fun! We’ll be kicking things off at 5pm and going until 9pm, so join us for a quality soundtrack as you decompress from work and get yourself in the mood to head out the door. Some great choices out on the town on Friday now, but I reckon your best bet for quality vibes with the crew is Reflections with Charles Martin, DJ Nav, Joe L and Trev-Ski at Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club on Friday night. Always a good time at Jimmy’s, and with this line up of local heavyweights, you can’t go far wrong.
Another great option for Friday is Flash, with Smallville Records‘ Christopher Rau, R&SRecords‘ Afriqua & Navbox in the main room, withlocal favorites Edo & Jus Nowhere in the Green Room and Philco & Baronhawk (TNX) in the bar. Serious business on all three floors, and free before 12am with RSVP!
Back at Flash again for Saturday’s highlight, with Radio Slave ably supported by Mazi R in the main room, Sarah Myers holding things down open to close in the Green Roomand Jive 100 with Mike Harvey, DJ Eli Cash & James CC in the Flash Bar. Something for everyone!
If you like to get dressed up and go crazy, theNaughty Snowball 9 – Sleigh Runner at The DC Eagle looks like a lot of fun on Saturday night. Too many DJs to list out here, but with crews like The NeedleXchange, The Nightflight DJs and The Sticky Fingers Collective in the house, you know this one’s gonna get real. This usually sells out each year, but with a bigger venue and more capacity this year, you can still grab $40 Tier 2 tix here.
Sunday’s highlight, as always, is Eighteenth Street Lounge, with the mighty Sam The Man Burns holding court in the Gold Room, Smudge in the main room, and another edition of Sundays Rooftop out on the heated patio, with Martinez and Benoit. Always the best place to close out your weekend.
No Meet the Locals Pocast this week. Waiting on a few submissions, but none of them arrived in time. For this week’s musical entertainment, here’s the video of last Saturday’s DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radiowith me, Ramirez and Katrina Mir. Video is a little bit choppy, but audio is sweet as. Some really nice tunes in this edition! We’ll be back with Episode #15 of the DC House Grooves Show on Saturday December 23rd. Keep an eye out for the event page over the next couple of days.
