DC House Grooves show residents Andy Grant, Ramirez & Katrina Mir are back for their first show of 2018 at 10pm ET / 4am CET. You know what to expect: quality underground dance music, live from DC House Grooves HQ in Washington DC.
Kicking off this week with news about DC House Grooves‘ new venture, the DC House Grooves radio show on DJ Jus-Ed‘s Underground Quality Radio. I’ve been a fan of Jus-Ed since the early days of Underground Quality, so it’s a huge honor for DC House Grooves to be added to the Underground Quality Radioline up. We will be broadcasting every two weeks on Saturday night / Sunday morning, from 10am ET / 4am CET. The show will feature me, Andy Grant, Katrina Mir and DJ Ramirez bringing you the deepest, freshest underground cuts. Anyone who has heard the three of us jamming together knows to expect the unexpected. Three talented DJs with very different styles, taking turns, each time raising the bar and challenging the next DJ to do better: it’s a recipe for an amazing musical journey. The three of us have been jamming on the regular in private for some time, but now it’s time to take it public! Whether you’re in the US pre-gaming before going out, or in Europe and just back from the club, tune in to the DC House Grooves Radio with Andy Grant, Ramirez & Katrina Mir on Underground Quality Radio every two weeks on a Saturday night for a musical journey you won’t forget. Make sure you join us in the chat room when you tune in!
Before I get into this weekend’s shenanigans, news of a couple of things coming up next weekend. On Saturday June 3, there’s another chance to get down with Sam Burns as you cruise down the Potomac, with support from Cadence‘s Vanniety Kills. That’s right! It’s another edition of The Sam Burns Boat Party with Sam “The Man” himself and Vanniety Kills. I played at the last Sam Burns Boat Party, and it was an amazing celebration of house music with a more than enthusiastic crowd! DC House Grooves has secured a 30% discount off advanced tickets for our readers, but don’t hesitate! This discount won’t be around next week. Take advantage of this amazing deal and grab your tickets now!
Something else you need to know about next week is Flash‘s 4-Year anniversary (can you believe it has been 4 years?), and to celebrate, they’ve put together a stellar line up from Wednesday through Sunday, featuring Paco Osuna, Jeremy Olander, Nico Stojan, Sleeparchive, Benjamin Damage, Hops, Kate Simko & the London Electronic Orchestra and Varhat, plus of course many of your favorite locals. See the flyer below, and come back to DC House Grooves next week for full details.
New podcast alert! The DC House Grooves Meet the Locals Podcast has reached it’s half century: Episode #50 features an amazing celebration of pure disco joy from Eighteenth Street Lounge resident Adrian Collazo. This one has been on repeat since Adrian sent it over, and it’s the perfect mix to celebrate our half century! You can catch Adrian Collazo this Thursday making his debut in the main room at Eighteenth Street Lounge. Not to be missed!
OK then, let’s dig in to this week’s festivities. While many of our friends are heading off to Motor City for the annual Memorial Day Weekend mayhem surrounding Movement Festival, for those of us staying here in DC there’s plenty to keep us busy! As usual, you’ll find full listings below from Thursday through Sunday, with all my DC House Grooves Top Picks highlighted with the Top Pick logo. Before we get into that, though, I want to call out a few very special anniversaries taking place this weekend. On Saturday, House-N-U celebrates it’s first anniversary at Ten Tigers Parlour with Shelter legend TimmyRegisford, fresh from his appearance at the DMV House Music Fest in Malcolm X Park, and with support from residents Andrew Hogans and Derrick D-Train Coleman. Timmy Regisford in the intimate surroundings on Ten Tigers Parlour is sure to be very special night. Gonna need to bring extra baby powder! I can imagine this one filling up to capacity, so I’d recommend picking up advanced tickets if you don’t want to miss out!
On Sunday night, there’s not one, not two, but three very special anniversaries! At Eighteenth Street Lounge, Sam “The Man” Burns is celebrating 10 years of his residency in the Gold Room with special guests Mikki Afflick and DJ Stingray. Also at ESL on Sunday, The Metaphysical and Keenan Orr hold things down in the main room, while Farid & Stylus Chris bring the heat out on the patio, while up in the Jazz Room, Alvaro Calmet, Philco & Benoit complete the line up at another edition of Sundays Workshop.
On the other side of town, everyone’s favorite dive bar Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club celebrates it’s 10 Year Anniversary, with an incredible line up of locals who have graced the decks at Jimmy’s over the years: Team Zapata, Joe L, Jeff Hancock, Jandro, Mettabbana, Beatrix & Dive & Lie Wrecked. Such a special occasion that DC Brau has brewed a special pale weizenbock named Total Victory to celebrate! The party kicks off at 9pm and goes late! No work on Monday, so no excuses 🙂
The third anniversary party on Sunday is the 11th anniversary of Daylight at 201 Bar, featuring DJ Divine, DJ Miss H.E.R.,DJ Stylus & DJ Ernest Fountain throwing down the finest R&B Dance classics, old school house, Soulful house & Golden era Hip Hop. Vibes guaranteed!
