Another big weekend right here in the District, but before we get started, have you picked up your tix to Uncle Benny’s with Detroit don Rick Wilhite yet? If not, what are you waiting for? Gonna be a big night this Friday at The Dew Drop Inn, with Rick Wilhite, Hot Coffee and Benoit, and you don’t want to miss it. DC House Grooves has partnered with Deep Secrets & Sticky Fingers to bring you a 20% discount off advanced tickets. There’s no time like the present to grab your tickets, so do it NOW! Believe me, Rick Wilhite working his magic in an intimate spot is the stuff dreams are made of. Just check out this vid of him banging the box at legendary London club Thunder a couple of years back.
Here’s the link to that sweet, sweet discount. No time like the present!
Still no Meet the Locals podcast this week. Waiting on a striking sonic extravaganza for episode #69, but I guess there’s no rushing genius! Hopefully I’ll have it in time for next week’s post 🙂 In the mean time, here’s the video of last Saturday’s DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio with me, Katrina Mir and special guests Jubilee & Kochi. Sadly Ramirez couldn’t be with us for this episode. He was up in Baltimore getting down to Joaquin “Joe” Claussell, so I can’t blame him for not being with us. From what I hear Joe delivered straight up fire all night, but I digress. Despite the lack of Ramirez, we had a fun show. Always a good time throwing down with Katrina, Jubilee and Kochi! The next DC House Grooves Show is on Saturday April 28. Mark it in your calendar, and tune in from 10pm ET at Underground Quality Radio or the Underground Quality Radio Facebook Page.
OK, here’s the links to this week’s DC House Grooves Top Picks. Just click the link for the day you’re interested in, and through the magic of the Internet, you’ll be transported to a list of my Top Picks for that day over on Facebook.
Highlights for this week include Playlist with Jubilee & Ramirez at Eighteenth Street Lounge and Headroom Listening Sessions followed by Eats Everything at Flash on Thursday.
On Friday, kick things off with the aforementioned Uncle Benny’s with Rick Wilhite on Friday, then for afters, all roads lead to the Grand Ancestor spot for 4/20 Party with PLO Man, hometown heroes Beautiful Swimmers and Grand Ancestor. No advanced tix for this one; $10 on the door before 2am, $20 after. RSVP here for info. Also worth checking out on Friday night is Super Solar with Mike Guimond and Super Tuff Records’ M. Vaughan at Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club. Quality tunes for the heads all night long at Jimmy’s!
Saturday night’s highlight is the latest edition of Sequence at the usual spot, with The Gods Planet, local heroes Oracles Live, A.M.D., Damon Bradley & Ron Jackson bringing you a serious techno work out until sunrise. Early release tickets are sold out, but you can still get $20 third release tickets if you move fast. Don’t sleep on this one! Gonna be special.
Sunday afternoon, I recommend all you vinyl heads make your way to Silver Spring for the Silver Spring Record Fair at Denizens Brewing Company. Over 20 vendors and a solid DJ line up, making for a wonderful Sunday afternoon! Sunday evening, head to Eighteenth Street Lounge for Sam Burns‘ weekly residency and Good Buddies with Keenan Orr and Philco. I couldn’t think of a better way to close out your weekend!
That’s it for this week. Make sure you explore my Top Picks links for all the events going on this weekend. I just don’t have time to do them all justice with a proper write up. I’ll be back next week, same time, same place, with info on all the best underground house and electronic music events in and around Washington DC, Thursday through Sunday. See you on the dance floor!
