Good times at Flash last Saturday! Chez Damier delivered an amazing set, keeping me dancing until 4.30am. Not bad considering I played a three+ hour set just before. Always a pleasure spinning on the club level at Flash, with that last hour or so before Chez took over being absolutely everything. Huge thanks to the whole team at Flash for making sure everything went smoothly, to Johnny Flash for his outstanding work on the lights, and to everyone who contributed their energy to the dance floor. Those first couple of hours when the dance floor is starting to fill are the hardest work for a DJ, but once the floor fills up, it becomes so much easier, the energy from the dancers feeding your performance. Playing to a packed dance floor in that room really is a magical experience, and it was an honor to be given the opportunity to do my thing in such an incredible space. Thank you Flash!
Speaking of which, DC House Grooves is back at Flash this coming Friday, with Katrina Mir making her club level debut warming up the room for Berlin’s Dana Ruh, at what promises to be another quality night of underground sounds. Kinda fitting to have Underground Quality record label alumnus Dana Ruh supported by Underground Quality Radio resident Katrina Mir. Almost like it was meant to be! Also from Berlin, and also this Friday at Flash, Madmotormiquel headlines the Green Room with support from KayLaSoul & Markinthedark, while in the bar the MoDERN CLASS crew take over with Pittsburgh’s Buscrates, Graham Hatke, Trev-ski & Haz. Another seriously epic night of music across three dance floors, all under one roof. I strongly encourage you to get there early for Katrina Mir‘s set. While I’m writing this post, I’m listening to her digging out records, and she’s gonna be packing some serious heat on Friday. Not to be missed! $8 early bird tickets are still available. Grab yours now!
Saturday night, we’ll be taking it easy after a long night on the dance floor with another edition of the DC House Grooves Show on Berlin’s Underground Quality Radio, with me, Katrina Mir and Ramirez serving up the underground wax from 10pm ET. Lots of new records coming in this week, so plenty of freshness on the show this Saturday. Tune in via the links below.
Other highlights for this week include Playlist with Jubilee and Ramirez at Eighteenth Street Lounge and Article with Sublimate resident Faso and Juana at U Street Music Hall on Thursday then on Friday, A Family Affair with Cool Hand Luke, DJ Nav and Markinthedark at Studio GaGa looks like a great bet, as does Envision at Jimmy Valentine’s with Deepak Sharma, Steve Kirn and Juana.
Saturday night, I recommend kicking things off at Flash, which hosts an epic line up featuring Detroit’s Delano Smith, Mosaic Records‘ Steve O’Sullivan and Navbox, with Philip Goyette and Kundalini in the Green Room and Charles Martin & Edo in the Flash Bar. Then, with a few drinks inside you, make your way up to a secret warehouse location in north east for Metro Xpression featuring Paraguay’s LPZ, Arthur Kimskii, Ron Jackson & Rush Plus delivering the techno goods on the Grand Ancestor sound system. Advance tickets are required for this event, $20 tickets available on Resident Advisor. Check the RA page for full party info.
Other events worth checking out on Saturday include Manchester, UK, native Tommy D Funk on the patio at Eighteenth Street Lounge and Winter Warmers with Double 07, Anish and DJ Stylus at Jimmy’s. Both great choices for quality tunes!
As always, on Sunday all roads lead to Eighteenth Street Lounge for quality house music to close out your weekend, with Sam Burns‘ weekly residency, The Metaphysicaland Good Buddies on the patio with Jus Nowhere and Philco.
