Just got back from a few hours at the 628 Boys x ROAM Daytime BBQ, chilling to sets from Grand Ancestor‘s Yola and Hot Coffee delivered on the impeccable Grand Ancestor system, with Juan Zapata working the grill like he werks a set of decks. A perfect way to spend the afternoon this fine July 4, but I had to leave before I got too comfortable! Would have been all too easy to stay there late into the night, but sadly had to tear myself away to go get stuff done. After all, these posts don’t write themselves! Thanks to everyone who braved the heat last Sunday to join us on the rooftop at Public Bar for Beats Maneuver with Yuko Jikido! It wasn’t the best turn out we’ve had, but that makes us appreciate those who did show up all the more! You guys rock. Yuko really delivered the goods, and those who were there really made the most of it on the dance floor! Huge props also to Ramirez, Katrina Mir and Joe L for their amazing sets. Katrina in particular deserves a medal for delivering an epic three hour all vinyl set in that heat! Can’t wait until our next Beats Maneuver event on July 15 with Chicago’s DJ Heather and Team Zapata. Shaping up to be the best one yet! Here’s hoping the temperature is just a few degrees lower.
Look out for the flyer, coming soon! Speaking of Beats Maneuver, here’s my set opening for Miles Maeda at Public Bar on June 17. One of my signature all vinyl sets for getting those feet tappin’ on the dance floor, featuring tracks from the likes of Seafoam, Alton Miller, Inner City, Crakazat, DJ Romain, Mr Fingers, Telfort, Norm Talley, Adesse Versions, Ben Rau, Javontte, Mike Huckaby, Stacy Kidd, LoSoul, Slam and more. Headphones on and press play!
Busy weekend coming up for us here at DC House Grooves. Friday night, we’ll be jamming live on the Internets on the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality. Myself, Katrina Mir and Ramirez throwing down the very best in underground house music for a few hours, kicking off at 10pm ET.
On Saturday night we’ll be hosting part 2 of our DC House Grooves 4 Year Anniversary celebrations in the Flash Bar, throwing back a few drinks and spinning a few records to commemorate 4 years of weekly DC House Grooves Top Picks posts, just one part of an incredible Saturday lineup at Flash, including Giles Smith and James Priestly from Secretsundaze on the club level, and Benoit and a very special guest in the Green Room. If you read DC House Grooves on the regular, if you’ve ever connected with your dance floor through these posts, stop by for a drink and a dance with us as Flash on Saturday. There’s no cover for the bar, just walk right in and start grooving! Make sure you stop by the booth and say hi.
Then on Sunday, I’ll be joining local DJ heroes Vanniety Kills, Juana (Discwoman) and StrikeStone! for another edition of The House that U Built at DC’s go-to rooftop spot El Techo. Just looking at the image below brings back incredible memories of the . legendary The House that U Built parties at The Brixton and Dirty Bar in years gone by. Captures the vibe perfectly! Surprisingly, this will be my debut at El Techo, and I really can’t wait. The House that U Built is always a good time, and I’m honored to be on the line up. No cover and the food and drinks are top notch.

Many amazing events to choose from this weekend. As usual, I’ve shared everything worth checking out on the DC House Grooves Facebook Page. Just click the handy links below to see the list for each day over on Facebook.
No time to do them all justice, but Pan-Pot with Oliver Caine at Flash is a great choice for techno this Thursday, and the Sleaze crew are at it at Wonderland again this Thursday with Our Country ‘Tis of Sleaze. Friday night’s line up at Flash looks smoking, too, with Poker Flat‘s Steve Bug supported by Jandro on the club level, Zamkov and Hot Coffee in the Green Room, and Juana and Mike Harvey in the Flash Bar.
Of course, if you don’t feel like going out on Friday, you can always tune into the DC House Grooves Show 🙂
Saturday afternoon, I recommend heading over the Anacostia Skate Park for the first Skate Fever, featuring the finest soul, funk, house, disco and R&B on roller skates, with music from Chosen, DJ Soul, DJ Oji, H’dm and DJ Housecat. Family friendly, and best of all, it’s free! Our very own Katrina Mir is playing at the nest Skate Fever on July 15, and we can’t wait to check it out this Saturday.
