Spring is finally here, looks like the weather’s gonna be warming up this weekend, and things are really starting to heat up out there on the dance floor here in Washington DC. This week sees the welcome return of Daytime Discothèque, which celebrates its third anniversary on Sunday with a fantastic line up including Tilman (fine records ), Trev-Ski ( Live Set ), Juan Zapata, Samantha Francesca, Hot Coffee & Tom Fee. I’m all about that live set from a man like Trev-ski. Can’t wait! It’s a BYOB joint, and they’ll be firing up the grill, so it’s bring your own meats and veggies, too. A proper family fair all round. Needle drops around 1pm, so if you’re up for some quality Sunday afternoon vibes, grab your ticket now. No door sales, so don’t sleep! Hopefully lots more to come from the Daytime Discothèque crew over the summer; looking forward to the kick off this Sunday.
So what else is going on this weekend? We’ll be at it again with another DC House Grooves Show this Saturday on Underground Quality Radio. Whether you’re heading out on the town or staying in, we’ve got the right vibe for your Saturday night. Tune in from 10pm ET on the Underground Quality Live YouTube channel, or at www.undergroundquality.com. For a taste of what to expect, check out the recording of last week’s show below.
So what else is happening this weekend in the District? Quite a bit, as it happens. See below for the full list of flyers for all the best underground house and techno events in and around DC, Thursday through Sunday, and click the section headings to see a list of the event pages over on Facebook. Thursday night in particular looks nuts, with Playlist at ESL, Black Coffee with Neko Berg at U Street Music Hall, Groove Machine live electronic showcase at Studio Ga Ga and Loco Dice at Flash. Friday, Article 003 at Backbar looks like a good time, then on Saturday check out head to Jimmy Valentine’s with a bouquet or two of flowers for Spring is for Flowers with Chadwick, Sid Waters and Sarah Myers, or maybe Ten Tigers Parlour for Buster, Juan Zapata & DJ Lantern.
Alternatively, The Elders will be making a long overdue return to DC to spin at Allegory, or you could head to El Techno to catch the DMV Deep crew. There’s also another incredible line up at Flash, and another edition of Werk Ethic with Ken Lazee and Nick Garcia at U Street Music Hall. All quality choices! Sunday is all about Daytime Discothèque, but if dreamy desert vibes are your jam, season 3 of Sunday Love keeps rolling at Flash with Sunday Love’s Road to Catharsis featuring Concret, Symphonic, Heather Femia and Kryptik. This week, they’ll also be opening up the club level for Love Bazaar, and indoor marketplace featuring all sorts of wonders you won’t want to miss. Feels like the start of something special! See flyer below for details.
Sunday night, as it tradition, all roads lead to Eighteenth Street Lounge for Sam Burns weekly residency and another edition of Sundays Rooftop with Detroit’s Daniel Andres and Benoit out on the patio. Always the best way to wrap up your weekend on the dance floor. Anyway, that’s everything for this week. Don’t forget to tune in to the DC House Grooves Show on Saturday night, and I’ll see you at the Daytime Disco on Sunday.
