Huge thanks to everyone who braved the torrential rain last Sunday to join us on the rooftop at Public Bar for Beats Maneuver with Trinidadian Deep. Sadly, the weather was not in our favor, but we appreciate all you hardy souls who came out despite the rain and threw a few shapes with us on the dance floor. Here’s hoping the sun will shine on the next Beats Maneuver rooftop charity event at Public Bar with Miles Maeda, Kochi, Andy Grant and Aaron Sparks on Sunday June 17. Hope you can join us!

On to this weekend, and it’s that time of year when DC celebrates Pride, and by the looks of things it’s going to be a busy weekend! As is tradition, our queer correspondent, The NeedleXchange‘s Tommy Cornelis has put together an amazing guide to DC Pride 2018, so if you’re in town for Pride, I recommend you check out Tommy‘s guide:
Below you’ll find my regular DC House Grooves Top Picks post, featuring all the best underground house and electronic music events in and around Washington DC Thursday through Sunday, both regular and Pride events. Before i get into the good stuff happening this weekend, I want to give a special mention to an event Katrina Mir and I are spinning at this weekend, Deep Sugar DC Pride 2018 “La Cage aux Folles” at U Street Music Hall on Saturday, featuring a very special live performance by Dawn Tallman, plus DJ sets from Ultra Naté & Lisa Moody & Wayne Davis. Katrina Mir and I will be kicking off the evening with a B2B DC House Grooves opening set, setting the scene for the evening with some disco numbers to get your feet tapping and put a smile on your face. I hope you can join us! Advanced tickets are just $10, so grab yours now, and we’ll see you on the dance floor. Deep Sugar parties always have an incredible vibe, and this one promises to be one for the books!
Just one more thing before the links to this week’s pics: a bit of music for you! Here’s the latest edition of Lars Behrenroth‘s Deeper Shades of House show, featuring a guest mix from yours truly. The first hour is Lars’ show, followed by my mix in the second hour. It’s an all vinyl mix featuring tracks from Fred P, LoSoul, Norm Talley, Iron Curtis, Son of Sound & DJ Jus Ed, Waajeed, DJ Aakmael, Inner Sense, Franck Roger and more. I hope you like it!
OK, here’s the links to this week’s DC House Grooves Top Picks, Thursday through Sunday. Click the link for each day to see the list of events.
As for this weekend’s highlights, I recommend you head over to Jimmy Valentine‘s on Thurday for Uptown House Experience with DJ Nav, Joe L, Associate & Trev-ski, which promises a night of fantastic music from a serious bunch of heads!
Friday night, we’ll be kicking things off with a rare Friday night edition of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio with me, Ramirez and Katrina Mir. Tune in from 10pm ET using the links below.
Out on the town, I recommend heading to U Street Music Hall for Honey Sound System, Octo Octa & Outputmessage. Line ups don’t get much better than that!
Or if something more eclectic is more your thing, head to Ten Tigers Parlour for Galaxy with DJ Fleg and Graham Hatke playing the very best funk, disco, boogie, classic hop hop, r&b, afrobeat, house and more on Ten Tigers‘ amazing Martin Audio sound system. This looks like the start of something special!
On Saturday night, we obviously hope to see you at Deep Sugar at U Street Music Hall, but if you want to get down away from the craziness of U Street on Pride weekend, I recommend Deeper with District Soul at Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club, which sees the legendary Johnson Lee dust off his headphones and get back into the DJ game, with the capable assistance of DJ Stereophonik, reminiscing to the halcyon days of the District Soul forums, once a thriving online hub of the Washington DC house music scene, where like minded individuals hung out, harmoniously discussing their shared love of house music. Those who were there know what I’m talking about 😉 There won’t be a microwave DJ in sight this Saturday at Jimmy’s, and with no cover, the price is right!
For proper queer Pride afters action on Saturday, all roads lead to TNX Presents Local Motion, featuring an all star line up of local LGBTQ DJs: The NeedleXchange residents Bil Todd, Tommy Cornelis, Baronhawk & DJ Lisa Frank, an epic pairing of two of our favorites StrikeStone! B2B Vanniety Kills & Alex DB B2B Wolfblister, plus live performances from Salvadora Dali & Majic Dyke, all delivered over a banging sound system courtesy of the Zapata Brothers. Advanced tickets highly recommended, only $15 over on Resident Advisor.
On Sunday, I recommend you close out the weekend at Eighteenth Street Lounge for Sam Burns‘ weekly residency, Smudge in the main room, and Sunday Rooftop out on the patio with Benoit & Miss I, coming in all the way from Romania.
Whew! That’s all I’ve got time for this weekend. Too many amazing events, and not enough time to do them all justice. I hope between Tommy‘s DC Pride 2018 post and my post right here, we’ve given you enough ideas to keep you grooving through the weekend. I’ll be back next week with another edition of DC House Grooves Top Picks, featuring all the best underground house and electronic music events in and around Washington DC, Thursday through Sunday. See you on the dance floor!
