Happy 2018! Took a week off last week, but couldn’t stay away too long. Back again with a new format that will hopefully provide the same useful guide to what’s good on the dance floors of DC, but take far less time to compile. I’ve been stuck in a bit of a rut with DC House Grooves for a while now, spending up to 12 hours each week compiling the post, getting frustrated at not having any time for other creative pursuits, but at the same time getting positive feedback from readers who I don’t want to let down. So for 2018, I’ve decided to switch things up a bit. I’ll be posting all the best events in DC’s thriving underground dance music community up on the DC House Grooves Facebook Page, so make sure you Like the page, Follow it, and subscribe to notifications so you don’t miss out on any updates. Then, every week at the usual time, I’ll post right here links to Facebook listing all the events for each day. Same useful listings, different format, far easier for me to compile! For example, here are this week’s DC House Grooves Top Picks:
See how easy that was? Just click the link for my full list of picks, then click through to the events you’re interested in for full info. Same useful guide, but takes me a quarter of the time. Hope you find it just as useful. Please let me know what you think!
The big news in DC this weekend is Mid Atlantic Leather Weekend, and as in previous years, our queer correspondent Tommy Cornelis of The NeedleXchange has done an amazing job compiling an unofficial guide to the MAL underground. You can check out Tommy‘s #MALLORY2018‘s guide right here on DC House Grooves. Huge thanks to Tommy for all his efforts putting this together.
Last, but by no means least, here’s Episode #64 of the DC House Grooves Meet the Locals Podcast, a quality deep, funky house excursion from Heavy Rotation‘s Kenny M.
We’re always looking for submissions from local DJs for the Meet the Locals podcast, so if you’ve got time to put together a mix for DC House Grooves, send it over! The only thing we ask is that the mix be exclusive to DC House Grooves, and not published anywhere else.
That’s it for this week. I hope the new format works for you, and I’ll see you out there on the dancefloor!
