Get ready for an incredible weekend in the District! Blisspop Disco Fest 2019 is here, three nights of disco bliss at U Street Music Hall and 9:30 Club, and it ain’t gonna be easy to decide where to be at any given time! I know where I’ll be on Saturday, though; warming up the room at U Street Music Hall for a parade of legends including Sam “The Man” Burns, The Blackbyrds Jellybean Benitez and Cerrone. I can’t wait! Before going into any more detail about this weekend’s events, congratulations are in order for Connor Wright, the lucky winner of the DC House Grooves Blisspop Disco Fest Ticket Give Away winner. Thanks for playing, Connor. Check your email for details on how to claim your prize of a pair of tickets worth over $100 to all five events at Blisspop Disco Fest! Huge thanks to everyone who took part in the draw. If you didn’t win, check DC House Grooves in future for more free give aways. Advance tickets are still available for all the events, and you’ll find all the ticket links below. I play at 8pm on Saturday at U Street Music Hall, and I’m really looking forward to setting the mood right. I hope you can make it!

Before I get into the everything else going on this weekend (and there’s a whole lot more beyond the disco fest!), a quick heads up about a fun grass roots festival that DC House Grooves is taking part in October 25 to 27, The Get Down Halloween Adventure. Featuring an amazing local line up from a whole bunch of different crews on two stages, a haunted house, costume contest and overnight camping, tickets are only $30. That’s right, only $30 for a full weekend of music, including camping. Even better, if you buy your tickets before October 2, you can get early bird tickets for only $20! Best of all, Andy Grant, Katrina Mir, Ramirez and Kochi are all on the line up, as well as friends of the family Damon Bradley, Heather Femia, Symmetrical and many more. So if you’re up for a fun weekend that’s a little bit different with no bullshit and no pretensions, join us out in the woods October 25 to 27 for The Get Down – A Halloween Adventure.

Back to this weekend, and there are some super cool happenings beyond the disco fest that you need to know about. On Saturday afternoon at the Hirshhorn Museum, there’s a screening of the film God Said Give ‘Em Drum Machines: The Story of Detroit Techno, with an introductory talk with the film’s director, producer and Detroit legend Delano Smith, a big DC House Grooves favorite! Free advance tickets are sold out, but there may be some tickets on the door if people don’t show up.

Then on Saturday night, the after party for the movie screening is the DC edition of Soul Clap‘s House of E Funk party at Flash. Always a highlight of Movement Weekend, it’s great to see House of E Funk in DC, and equally great to see some local representation on the characteristically epic line up, with Sol Power All Stars, Trev-ski, Philco and Samantha Francesca all putting in an appearance. I’m super psyched to see two of my favorite Detroiters Norm Talley and Scott Grooves on the line up. Hoping to catch their sets after Jellybean and Cerrone at U Street Music Hall! Second release tickets are still available for only $25. Grab yours now, as they’ll be a lot more on the door.
