OK lots to cover this week before we dive in to our picks and listings for the week, so we’re going to skip the round up of all the extended Thanksgiving Weekend activities. Lets just say there was plenty of untz untz, and more than a little boots and pants, and everyone had a great time! First up is a reminder that on Wednesday next week at U Street Music Hall there’s the DanceSafe DC Happy Hour.
If you haven’t joined the event yet, please head over to the event page for the full details, and click Join! There’s a $5 donation at the door, 100% of which goes towards DanceSafe, and after the happy hour you’ll get free entry to Tube & Berger with The Elders & Ozker. This event has the full support of DC House Grooves, and we hope to see you all there! If you’re unfamiliar with what DanceSafe does, or what your donation will be funding, this explains it all:

Next up, we’ve got a couple of bits of news about our Body Werk party. Our next Body Werk event is on Thursday December 11 in the Flash Bar as part of the SubDistrick 3 Year Anniversary + Translation Recordings 10 Year Anniversary featuring LOXY. Andy Grant and Joe L (Push / Bump’n’Grind | DC) will be werkin’ the Flash Bar from open to close, while Loxy, Bass Avengers and Lyceum lay down the drum & bass up on the main floor.

Then, coming up on Saturday December 13, we’ve got our next Body Werk event at DC9 Nightclub, with Aaron Sparks (Push | DC) and Andy Grant going back to back serving up nothing but the freshest underground house cuts fresh from the vinyl, while Kochi (iNK House / Sugar Shack Recordings | DC) werks the rooftop open to close. Anyone who came to our last event at DC9 with R&B knows all about the amazing Void Acoustics sound system. It really is a bit special, and you’ll no doubt want to check it out for yourself. Body Werk: the best underground house from the best local DJs. No cover, no bullshit.

And finally before we get into the picks and listings for this week, the FORWARD DC crew have announced the dates and theme for DC’s premiere boutique electronic music festival, FORWARD 2015. The festival will run from May 13 to May 17 2015, and the theme for the festival is Infinity. The Forward festival is always a huge high point for electronic music in Washington DC each year, so we couldn’t be more excited. Make sure you like the FORWARD Facebook page for news and info about the festival:
https://www.facebook.com/ForwardDC
The FORWARD team also published the first in their mix series leading up to FORWARD 2015, inspired by the festival theme, Infinity. The first mix is from one of DC’s finest, DJ Lisa Frank, and it’s a great mix! Check it out while you’re reviewing this week’s picks and listings.

Thursday Picks
Lost on Thurdays with Andy Grant (DC House Grooves), Jubilee (Slope Traxx) & Ramirez (Slope Traxx) at Lost Society
Our top pick for the best underground house on Thursday night is Lost on Thursdays at Lost Society. This week Lost’s guests are our very own Andy Grant, Jubilee (Slope Traxx) and Ramirez (Slope Traxx). The last time these three played at Lost was an amazing night of quality tunes, and you can expect this one to be no different. Always a great night on the Lost rooftop! No cover, and all the usual drinks specials.

Cadence, 2Tuff & 88 present Lenzman at Flash
Our top pick for Thursday for those of you looking for the best drum and bass in town is Cadence at Flash, with Lenzman making his US debut, with support from Slant (2Tuff), Joanna O (Turnstyle RVA) and Illogic (Cadence). Downstairs in the Flash Bar, the Bump’n’Grind residents Joe L (Bump’n’Grind Push), Refugee (Bump’n’Grind, Deep Sessions, 88) and Dave (Bump’n’Grind, 88, Forward) laying down the grooves. This is a much anticipated US debut for Lenzman, and there’s a lot of buzz for this event! First release tickets are all sold out, but you can still grab advanced tickets for $12 from Ticketfly. Move fast though, as advanced tickets will sell out.

If quality underground house and techno in a more intimate setting is more your thing, then our pick for you is Transmission 4/4 with Charles Martin (DC) and Philip Goyette (ESL | DC) at Velvet Lounge. Charles and Philip are both great DJs, and this is a great opportunity to hear them doing their thing open to close. No cover.
https://www.facebook.com/events/901267813217126
Fusion: Soulful House Edition at Treehouse Lounge
If a bit of soulful house off the beaten path is more your thing, then we recommend you check out Fusion: Soulful House Edition at Treehouse Lounge in North East. The selectors for this edition of Fusion are Keith Miller (The Ground), Shadrach and DJ Christopher. We have it on good authority that Keith Miller killed it at a recent gig in the Flash Bar, so definitely worth your time checking this one out for some fine soulful house vibes. 21+, no cover and plenty of street parking.
https://www.facebook.com/events/421651381322625
Last, but not least, for Thursday, for a more grown up affair, check out Gryphon After Dark at The Gryphon. Described as jazz singer, meets piano bar, meets cabaret, meets DC 2014, this new concept from our friends at One Love Massive is a great bet for quality entertainment if you’re wanting something a little more classy.
https://www.facebook.com/events/1495330877423140/
Friday Picks
Our top pick for Friday is Double 07 & Cire Marcos at The Lodge at Redrocks. Double 07 is one of our favorite local DJs, and he’ll be celebrating his birthday in style with Cire Marcos at H Street’s coolest new venue. We’re looking forward to stopping by to enjoy some quality deep house and debauchery, and we hope to see you there. No cover, 21+.
https://www.facebook.com/events/1516261451975587
Our next pick for Friday night is Max Cooper with Chris Nitti & Navbox at U Street Music Hall. We’re not too familiar with Max Cooper, but locals Chris and Navbox are always worth catching, particularly when they are working the U Hall sound system. Advanced tickets are $10, but it is free before 11pm for 21+.
https://www.facebook.com/events/1486802044928291/
Next up for Friday is Baltotroit in the intimate setting of Dr. Clock’s Nowhere Bar, where Detroit and Baltimore will be joining forces to bring you quality techno all night long, with DJs Boss Ross and Steve Kirn. Top tunes, good friends, no cover.
https://www.facebook.com/events/897639916912856
Our final pick for Friday, and the best bet if you’re in Baltimore, is Red Maple Fridays presents Juan Zapata and DJ Lovegrove at The Red Maple. Lovegrove and Juan are two of the longest serving area DJs, and between them they’re bringing north of 40 years experience behind the decks. This is the place you want to be if you want to hear two of the Baltimore / Washington area’s best underground house DJs working a dance floor. 21+.
Saturday Picks
So much on this Saturday, so pay close attention and choose wisely! We kick off Saturday with a radio pick, the Acrobeats Radio Show w/ Guest Dj Earic Patten on DelightRadioFM Greece. Former Tracks DC resident, Strictly Rhythm recording artist and DC local Earic Patten will be hitting the Internet airwaves for the first time from Greece, playing a very special set with a southern mediterranean vibe. The show kicks off at 1pm ET, and you can tune in at http://www.delightradio.fm/.
https://www.facebook.com/events/875564915817797
Our top pick for Saturday out on the town is Amalgamation with Wheez-ie & Joe Nice along with local selectors Refugee B2B with Panch & Jett Chandon at our favorite neighborhood venue Zeba Bar. Amalgamation is a new concept from Refugee, bringing you a multi genre night where anything goes, as long as you can groove to it. With so many genre specific nights to choose from, this is probably the only place in town on Saturday where you’ll find a range of genres all under one roof. House, drum and bass, bass, breaks, garage, dubstep, two-step.. they’ve got something for everyone. We recently had Jett Chandon on the DC House Grooves radio show, and she blew us away, so we recommend you get there for her set. We’ve been slacking on posting the recording of that show, but we’ll be posting it soon. 21+, no cover.
https://www.facebook.com/events/949172331776513/
With deep house, garage, disco and eclectic sounds from a fine selection of local DJs across three dance floors, Eighteenth Street Lounge is a great choice for Saturday night. Out on the patio, P-Sol and Bil Todd will be selecting the tunes, with former DC House Grooves radio show guests Philip Goyette and DJ Nav doing it right in the Gold Room, and Caleb L’Etoile at the controls in the Main Room. Always a fun night at ESL!
https://www.facebook.com/18thStLounge
For some proper dance floor mayhem on Saturday night, stop into Flash for an incredible lineup headlined by Detroit legend Kevin Saunderson returning to unleash mayhem on the Funktion Ones for a second time, with support from Silvie Loto and local Parker. Down in the Flash Bar, Wizdom Entertainment will be providing the tunes, with a lineup including Dino, Alozon Wainwright and Heather Femia. If you’ve not heard Kevin Saunderson before, this is your chance to catch a techno legend on one of the best sound systems in town. Advanced tickets are available for the bargain basement price of $10 from Ticketfly, more on the door.
https://www.facebook.com/events/1564378540458997
Our final pick for Saturday is strictly speaking a Sunday pick, since it kicks off at 3am and goes until whenever. There’s No Place Like )'(ome is the official after party for the sold out Naughty Snowball, hosted at the Dance Loft on 14th. We’re not down with the cool kids from Naughty Snowball, so we know very little about this, other than what looks like a tasty lineup including Paul Geddes (DISRIKT, DC), Marko Peli (PEX, Nomad, DC), Twinflame (Blackbird Squadron / The Athena Collective), Dan Rabbitt (Beemore / Garden of Heathens / Bmore), Zoologic (Misanthrope Inc, Sunday Sol; FOCO, SF), Synz (Mischief, Hiiive, DC), DJ Total (BCDC) and Seeds (Acoustic Combustion). There will be art installations, hookah lounges, chill out areas and all that good stuff. Looks like a great bet for some proper messy afters action for those of you who just refuse to call it a night. Advanced tickets are $15 from Flavorus, $20 on the door.
https://www.facebook.com/events/851478284884147/
Sunday Picks
If you’re still standing by Sunday, for quality soulful house, get yourself over to Eighteenth Street Lounge for Sam Burns’ Underground Soul Solution in the Gold Room, with The Metaphysical in the Main Room. https://www.facebook.com/18thStLounge
Modern Class with Trev-Ski and DJ Provoke at Showtime Bar
Our final pick for the weekend is a new night from Trev-ski and DJ Provoke, Modern Class at Showtime Bar. A great bet if you want to expand your musical horizons and hear rarities you won’t find anywhere else.
