DC House Grooves Top Picks Halloween Edition October 25 to October 31

Ok, I’ve got some big news this week. For our next Beats Maneuver event, we’ve teamed up with the crew behind Late Night Mischief to bring you Late Night Maneuvers at an intimate warehouse space in northeast DC on Friday November 2. For this very special occasion, we’re bringing the one and only Turtle Bugg (Sublimate) down from Detroit to really show us who’s boss behind the decks.

Late Night Maneuvers with Turtle Bugg

We first came across Turtle Bugg a few years back when we went to Sublimate in Brooklyn to catch Amir Alexander, and we were immediately impressed. We’ve since caught him at subsequent Sublimate parties, and at the ill-fated Boiler Room Weekender up in the Poconos a couple of years back. Sadly, the weekender was closed down before the Sublimate after hours even started, so we were robbed of our chance to hear Turtle Bugg again. A couple of years later, and we’re making damn sure we get to hear him properly by throwing a party with him as the headliner! A true DJs DJ, you can be sure Turtle Bugg will be digging deep in the crates for this one, serving up the finest slabs of wax for the discerning DC after hours crowd. With the Beats Maneuver resident DJs on support, you can be sure of a musical evening to remember; Kochi will be warming things up, kicking off with the slow jams and slowing teasing you on to the dance floor. Next, me (Andy Grant), Ramirez and Katrina Mir will be dialing things up with one of our epic back to back to back sets. With the three of us feeding off each other’s energy, you can never be sure where we’ll be going, but it is always a fantastic, vibe filled journey. Three talented DJs challenging each other to do better, upping the ante with every track. We’ll be priming the floor perfectly for Turtle Bugg to take over and keep things jumping until the morning comes. And did I mention we’ll be working the Grand Ancestor 2.0 Sound System? Not only that, we’ll be powered by the amazing Bozak AR6 Mixer for a fully analog signal path from the turntables to the speakers. Sound quality matters, and we’re going to be working hard to make sure the system sounds as good as can be, bathing you in warm analog goodness for an immersive experience that you won’t soon forget. There are a limited number of $10 early bird tickets available on Resident Advisor, after which standard advance tickets are $15. On the night, entry will be FREE before 12am, $20 from 12am to 2am, then $30 after 2am. However, if you RSVP at http://bit.ly/TBUGGRSVP, you can get in for $20 all night. If you’re not sure if you can make it, might as well RSVP now to lock in the $20 rate.

Oh, and did I mention our advance ticket prize draw? Beats Maneuver is giving away a FREE, Near Mint copy of Luxuru by Ronin from 2002 on the highly sought after Driftwood record label worth well over $60 to one lucky winner. For a chance to win, just buy an advance ticket to Late Night Maneuvers featuring Turtle Bugg (Sublimate). Each ticket purchased gets you one entry into the prize draw. One ticket, one entry. Two tickets, two entries, and so on. We’ll pick the winner at 6pm on Friday November 2 at 6pm, and the winner can collect their prize at the event. So, what are you waiting for? Grab your advance tickets now to an amazing party now, and you might just win a super rare and valuable record.

If you’re not familiar with the DC House Grooves Show vibe, then check out 5.5 hour after hours session featuring me, Katrina Mir and Ramirez. Quality house music from beginning to end.

So what else is happening in Washington DC this weekend? Nothing short of a metric fuckton of incredible events, that’s what. Thursday night is some kind of stupid, what with and early show featuring George Fitzgerald live followed by a late show with Catz’n’ Dogz at U Street Music Hall, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs at FlashPlaylist with JubileeSarah Myers at Eighteenth Street Lounge and Sleaze: You Go Ghoul at Wonderland. Take your pick, they’ll all be top notch!  Too many to list on Friday, but I recommend getting down to some minimal vibes with Petre InspirescuGhostTaigaThroe at Flash, then heading to the warehouse for LNM: Jesse Bru, Bokeh, Samantha Francesca & Team Zapata delivering the underground goodies on the incredible Grand Ancestor sound system for afters. Advance tickets are recommended, and there are still some $10 early birds available. However, if you’re planning on just rolling up, I recommend you add yourself to the RSVP list for $20 entry on the door. If you’re not on the RSVP list, door tax will be a steep $30. Seems like a great policy for reserving the dance floor for the heads.

Saturday night, once you’ve warmed up listing to the DC House Groooves Show on Underground Quality Radio, out on the town EdwardOskar OffermanJubilee at Flash promises a good time, but if you’re looking for the full warehouse experience, ROAM, UNTER and The NeedlExchange are joining forces for Capitol Punishment with Volvox, Jasmine Infiniti, Olga, DJ Lisa Frank, Tommy Cornelis, Jett Chandon, Bil Todd, Chris Nitti & Baronhawk. It’s like a Justice League of techno, with the crews joining forces for a full 12 hours to fight for truth, justice and the American way, through the medium of untz, or something. As always, advance tickets are highly recommended. Needle drops at 10pm, and the sweet music continues until 10am Sunday. They aren’t taking any prisoners with this one. Be ready for punishment!

Fun times in the Green Room at Flash last Friday! The DC House Grooves crew took over the Green Room for the evening, with residents RamirezKatrina Mir and myself (Andy Grant) going back to back to back all night long. We had an amazing crowd on the dance floor, and the music was on point from start to finish, sounding sweet as on the Funktion Ones. Thanks to everyone who came out to join us, and to the team at Flash for booking us and making sure everything went smoothly on the night. Can’t wait to do it again! The good news is, we recorded the whole night, which you can listen to over on the DC House Grooves SoundCloud page:

Speaking of doing it again, Katrina Mir and I will be back in the Green Room this Friday night, August 24, for We Dig Vinyl alongside Elliott Sloan and Symmetrical for an evening of wax gems from deep in the crates. We’re all going to be diving deep into our collections for rare and interesting jams to serve up direct from the wax, and I can’t wait to hear what everyone brings! I certainly can’t wait to bust out the crown jewels that don’t often see the light of day. In the main room, Fjaak and Antenes bring the technos with local support from Steve Kirn, while in the Flash BarDJ Meegs and Marko Peli join forces for another edition of Cider House Mules. Advanced tickets are just $8, but I’m sure I have a few guest spots available. Reach out to me through the DC House Grooves Facebook page if you want one!

This is the bit where I usually write up my highlights for the weekend, but sadly I’m out of time. So much good stuff to choose from, but I just can’t give it all the write up it deserves this week. Playlist with Jubilee & friends at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Thursday is always on point, and if I wasn’t at Flash on Friday, I’d be sure to be heading down to U Street Music Hall for Werk Ethic with Ken LazeeNick Garcia throwing down the very best house and techno from the 90s. Anyway, gotta wrap this up now. Hope to see you all out and about, and I look forward to closing out the weekend with you on the dance floor at Beats Maneuver with Lyssa at Public Bar on Sunday.
