DC House Grooves Top Picks of the Best Underground House and Techno Events in Washington DC September 5 to Monday September 8

Thank you to everyone who came out to Capital House Music Festival on Labor Day, and major respect to DJ Tantra of Chrysis Entertainment and Chosen for all their hard work putting together such an amazing free festival. Katrina and I were proud to be part of such an amazing event, and it was life affirming seeing such an enthusiastic and real crowd getting down in the sunshine and the rain to an incredible line up of local talent. The day captured what house music is all about, and I’m glad I got the chance to play a small part in it. If you were there in Malcolm X Park on Monday, please consider making a donation to the festival fundraiser. While it is a free event, it cost a fair bit to make it happen, so every little bit helps! Capital House Music Festival will be back in 2020, and next year it will be bigger than ever!

Just a drive by post this week. Blame Detroit!

Detroit kicked my ass over the holiday weekend, in a really good way, so no Top Picks this week. My favorite set of the weekend was from Rick Wilhite, and if you do anything this weekend, I encourage you to go to Darkroom in Baltimore on Saturday for Karizma, Rick Wilhite and Feroun. Rick really is a try DJs DJ, his music transcending genre and making it impossible for you not to dance. Word has it that there aren’t many advance tickets left, so I recommend you move fast. You won’t regret it!

Another opportunity to catch exciting Detroit talent this weekend is at Sundays Rooftop at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Sunday, where Benoit is joined by Hazmat Live for another fantastic night of music on the patio. There’s no cover, so you know it makes sense!

As for the DC House Grooves crew, we’ll be back at it this Saturday with episode #49 of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio. We came back from Detroit with a big stack of new, unreleased wax, so we’ve got quite a few treats in store!

Then on Sunday, you can catch me, Andy Grant, and Katrina Mir serving an eclectic mix of rare jams from 3pm to 5pm at the Silver Spring Record Fair at Denizens Brewing Company. With over 20 vendors, a DJ line up including David, Kenny M and Mikie Love, and lots of craft beer, it’s a must for all you vinyl enthusiasts out there. Hope to see you there!

OK, that’s it for this week. Plenty of other great events happening over the weekend at all the usual spots, so keep an eye on Facebook and check venue websites listings. Hopefully normal DC House Grooves service will resume next week!
