Another fine weekend line up this week in the District. I can tell things are heating up for the summer, as it is taking me longer and longer each week to compile the list of Top Picks for the weekend! The highlight this weekend is the second edition of Daytime Discotheque for 2019 featuring Demuja with support from Zamkov, Samantha Francesca and Kundalini. Always a good time at the Daytime Disco, so grab your advance tickets, pack your booze, meat and veggies, and head to the spot for some serious Sunday grooving. Remember, no door sales, so plan ahead!
On a related topic, worth mentioning that Late Night Mischief is back next weekend for a very special 4/20 event featuring a fantastic line up including Huerta, Jus Nowhere, Yola and Team Zapata. We’ve already grabbed our tickets; I hope you can join us on the dance floor to celebrate everyone’s favorite holiday. Early birds are still available for only $15, don’t sleep!
Back to this weekend, and you’ll find my full list of Top Picks below. Saturday night, the DC House Grooves crew will be at it again on another edition of the DC House Grooves Show on Berlin’s Underground Quality Radio. Tune in from 10pm ET for quality underground vibes served up fresh from the wax by me, Katrina Mir and Ramirez. You know how we do; whether you’re going out or staying in, we’ve got the right vibe for your Saturday night.
One event that looks really interesting on Saturday night is Wine Light at Eaton Hotel, which features an artist talk from one of my favorite producers, Ron Trent (Prescription), followed by a DJ set from the man himself at Wild Days, with support from Adrian Loving & John Murph. FREE with RSVP at https://tinyurl.com/yxtrcfl9.
One last thing before I get to this week’s listings: this Sunday night brings the season opener of one of DC longest running rooftop parties, Sundays Rooftop. Joining Benoit to kick off this season is Berlin’s John Dimas. For quality grooves to close out your weekend, head to Eighteenth Street Lounge and kick it on the patio with the Deep Secrets crew.
OK, that’s enough from me. Here’s the full list of Top Picks for the weekend, Thursday through Sunday. Facebook users can click the link at the top of each section to see the list of event pages over on Facebook, and for all you non-Facebook users, Google is your friend. See you on the dance floor.
Spring is finally here, looks like the weather’s gonna be warming up this weekend, and things are really starting to heat up out there on the dance floor here in Washington DC. This week sees the welcome return of Daytime Discothèque, which celebrates its third anniversary on Sunday with a fantastic line up including Tilman (fine records ), Trev-Ski ( Live Set ), Juan Zapata, Samantha Francesca, Hot Coffee & Tom Fee. I’m all about that live set from a man like Trev-ski. Can’t wait! It’s a BYOB joint, and they’ll be firing up the grill, so it’s bring your own meats and veggies, too. A proper family fair all round. Needle drops around 1pm, so if you’re up for some quality Sunday afternoon vibes, grab your ticket now. No door sales, so don’t sleep! Hopefully lots more to come from the Daytime Discothèque crew over the summer; looking forward to the kick off this Sunday.
So what else is going on this weekend? We’ll be at it again with another DC House Grooves Show this Saturday on Underground Quality Radio. So what else is happening this weekend in the District? Quite a bit, as it happens. See below for the full list of flyers for all the best underground house and techno events in and around DC, Thursday through Sunday, and click the section headings to see a list of the event pages over on Facebook. Thursday night in particular looks nuts, with Playlist at ESL, Black Coffee with Neko Berg at U Street Music Hall, Groove Machine live electronic showcase at Studio Ga Ga and Loco Dice at Flash. Friday, Article 003 at Backbar looks like a good time, then on Saturday check out head to Jimmy Valentine’s with a bouquet or two of flowers for Spring is for Flowers with Chadwick, Sid Waters and Sarah Myers, or maybe Ten Tigers Parlour for Buster, Juan Zapata & DJ Lantern.
Alternatively, The Elders will be making a long overdue return to DC to spin at Allegory, or you could head to El Techno to catch the DMV Deep crew. There’s also another incredible line up at Flash, and another edition of Werk Ethic with Ken Lazee and Nick Garcia at U Street Music Hall. All quality choices! Sunday is all about Daytime Discothèque, but if dreamy desert vibes are your jam, season 3 of Sunday Love keeps rolling at Flash with Sunday Love’s Road to Catharsis featuring Concret, Symphonic, Heather Femia and Kryptik. This week, they’ll also be opening up the club level for Love Bazaar, and indoor marketplace featuring all sorts of wonders you won’t want to miss. Feels like the start of something special! See flyer below for details.
Sunday night, as it tradition, all roads lead to Eighteenth Street Lounge for Sam Burns weekly residency and another edition of Sundays Rooftop with Detroit’s Daniel Andres and Benoit out on the patio. Always the best way to wrap up your weekend on the dance floor. Anyway, that’s everything for this week. Don’t forget to tune in to the DC House Grooves Show on Saturday night, and I’ll see you at the Daytime Disco on Sunday.
Not much time this week, so let’s dive in! Thursday night, I strongly urge you start your evening at Preview at Flash, where the uber talented Symmetrical will not only be DJing, but exhibiting his works of art. We have a Symmetrical original hanging in our basement, and I absolutely love his distinctive and unique works. This is a great opportunity for you to get familiar with a local talent with such raw energy, enthusiasm and positivity that I have no doubt he will go far. Trust me… you’ll be able to say you knew him before he was famous! Later on at Flash, the amazing DJ Tennis graces the decks in the main room with support from the equally amazing Solomon Sanchez, so it may just be worth you sticking around.
Friday night, Katrina Mir and I will be joined behind the decks in the Flash Bar by Deep Secrets’ Benoit. I’m still buzzing from Katrina Mir‘s amazing set at Daytime Discothèque opening for Detroit’s Reggie Dokes last Sunday, and it’s been a minute since I’ve gone a few rounds on the ones and twos with Uncle Benny, so this one’s going to be emotional! Join us ifrom 9pm for serious grooves, laughter, and perhaps even a few tears. Upstairs in Flash‘s main room, British techno duo Dense & Pika bring the heat with local support from Schubert, while in the Green Room, there’s a MoDERN CLASS reunion, with Trev-ski and Fulano reuniting with DJ Provoke for another night of disco, soul, funk and boogie.
Another strong recommendation for Friday night is The Uptown House Experience with house legend Doug Smith of production duo 95 North, with support from DJ Nav B2B Joe L at Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club. Proper house music for the heads.
Saturday brings another edition of the Sam Burns Boat Party featuring Sam The Man himself and Sammy Rock. DC House Grooves has an exclusive $10 discount off tickets to the next Sam Burns Boat Party, #HOTWMD & Mont.age present the “Tale of Two Sam’s” Boat Ride with Sam Burns & Sammy Rock. Always a good time when Sam Burns is captaining the boat, so don’t hesitate to take advantage of this tasty offer and secure your place on the dance floor now!
Another great option for Saturday afternoon grooves is The Cookout with Sticky Fingers Collective & Good Buddies at The Embassy Row Hotel. Serious vibes in the sunshine as HOT COFFEE,Jandro Rod, Jacq Jill, PHILCO & Samantha Francesca throw down by the rooftop pool.
For your Saturday night pre-game, tune in to episode #06 of the DC House Grooves Show on Jus-Ed‘s Underground Quality Radio with me, Katrina Mir and Ramirez from 10pm, then take your pick from my Top Picks below for your Saturday night dance floor moves. Jay Tripwire, Franck Roger and Team Zapata at Flash looks seriously tasty, as does LENG Presents Batu (UK) with Max D, Jett Chandon, Djoser & Panch at Ten Tigers Parlour. Don’t sleep on Full Service Party presents MikeQ and Vjuan Allure with Uptown Nikko, Jack Inslee, Wreck Tech & Ayes Cold at U Street Music Hall, either. Tough decisions all round on Saturday night! A sure sign of a really healthy underground scene here in DC.
Sunday afternoon, take your pick between Sunday Love with Brian Cid & Life on Planets at Flash or Chasing Sundays Secret Disco Edition with Misha & Anton at Public Bar, but whatever you do, don’t miss Sundays Rooftop with Darand Land, Feroun and Benoit. You may think you know deep house, but Darand Land is the man to take you to school and really show you what deep house can be. Serious deep grooves for those who know.
That’s it for this week. Just time to bring you another edition of the DC House Grooves Meet the Locals Podcast featuring quality soulful grooves from Richmond’s Omar Faison. Catch Omar at his residency at Flow, 2nd Saturdays at Emilio’s in Richmond.
