DC House Grooves Top Picks of the Best Underground House and Techno Events in Washington DC June 27 to June 30

Fun times at Late Night Mischief on Saturday! I haven’t dance that much since Rick Wilhite kicked my ass in Detroit a few weeks back. DJ Nav set the vibe just right with a quality early set, then Aakmael delivered the goods with a solid 4 hour set of proper house music, with our very own Katrina Mir taking things up a notch keeping us grooving until sunrise with a seriously banging set. Always a good time with at Late Night Mischief! Huge thanks to the Sticky Fingers Collective & Team Zapata for inviting Katrina Mir to play, and for being such amazing hosts. Can’t wait until the next one.

You can catch Katrina Mir alongside me, Andy Grant and Ramirez on Episode #51 of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio this Friday June 28 at 10pm ET. Tune in for another quality show featuring quality underground house music served up fresh from the wax. We’ll be putting the brand new Technics 1200 Mk7 turntables through their paces for the first time on Saturdays show. Can’t wait to take them for a spin!

Another quality line up of events this weekend in and around the District. Playlist with Jubilee and Ramirez is the best way to kick off your weekend with quality house music on the patio at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Thursday, then on Friday, after listening to the DC House Grooves Show to get you in the mood, I recommend Sequence.820_Headless Horseman, where the Sequence crew will be rocking a new two room spot with an amazing line up including Headless Horseman live, Jacq Jill, Juana and Damon Bradley in the main room, and Theta Flux live, Ben Jenkins and Associate in the Isolated Paradise ambient room. Advance tickets are recommended, but tickets are available on the door with RSVP.

DC House Grooves Top Picks of the Best Underground House and Techno Events in Washington DC June 13 to June 16

Another big weekend here in the District, and DC House Grooves has everything you need to plan your weekend on the dance floor. It’s an especially big weekend for us, as we’re celebrating the 50th episode of the DC House Grooves Show on Berlin’s Underground Quality Radio. We’ve been broadcasting every other Saturday for nearly two years now, and with each show, the vibe’s been getting stronger. For episode #50, we’ve put together something a little bit special. Joining me, Ramirez and Katrina Mir in the studio is none other than DC legend Sam “The Man” Burns (Underground Soul Solution, Eighteenth Street Lounge), along with the amazingly talented Candice Mills on live vocals. We’re honored to have two powerhouse local talents joining us to help us celebrate a very special occasion. But wait, there’s more! We’ll be giving away two FREE copies of the latest release on Underground Quality, the Jus-Me EP by DJ Jus-Ed which were dropped off at the studio when the man himself visited a couple of weeks ago.

Before I get into the other festivities for this weekend, a quick reminder to buy your tickets for Late Night Mischief on Saturday June 22, with as fantastic line up featuring DJ Aakmael, DJ Nav and a closing set from our very own Katrina Mir. Late Night Mischief parties always deliver a thick vibe, and with DJ Nav setting the tone, DJ Aakmael taking things to the next level, and Katrina Mir keeping you grooving until sunrise, I can guarantee this one’s gonna be just a little bit special. Advance tickets are just $15, which is steal for a line up of this caliber. Remember, no tickets on the door, so you might as well buy yours now.

So what about this weekend? A major feature here in Washington DC this weekend is the 6 year anniversary of Flash nightclub, and to celebrate, they’ve put together yet another epic line up of world class talent, international and local, and each night they’ll be kicking off the evening with a complimentary glass of champagne. I can’t believe it has been six years since Flash opened its doors. I, for one, have so many great memories at the club, both on the dance floor and behind the decks. Check the flyers below for the full line up, Thursday through Sunday. Each night looks amazing, like a weekend music festival, all under one roof.

Just a drive by post this week. Blame Detroit!

Detroit kicked my ass over the holiday weekend, in a really good way, so no Top Picks this week. My favorite set of the weekend was from Rick Wilhite, and if you do anything this weekend, I encourage you to go to Darkroom in Baltimore on Saturday for Karizma, Rick Wilhite and Feroun. Rick really is a try DJs DJ, his music transcending genre and making it impossible for you not to dance. Word has it that there aren’t many advance tickets left, so I recommend you move fast. You won’t regret it!

Another opportunity to catch exciting Detroit talent this weekend is at Sundays Rooftop at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Sunday, where Benoit is joined by Hazmat Live for another fantastic night of music on the patio. There’s no cover, so you know it makes sense!

As for the DC House Grooves crew, we’ll be back at it this Saturday with episode #49 of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio. We came back from Detroit with a big stack of new, unreleased wax, so we’ve got quite a few treats in store!

Then on Sunday, you can catch me, Andy Grant, and Katrina Mir serving an eclectic mix of rare jams from 3pm to 5pm at the Silver Spring Record Fair at Denizens Brewing Company. With over 20 vendors, a DJ line up including David, Kenny M and Mikie Love, and lots of craft beer, it’s a must for all you vinyl enthusiasts out there. Hope to see you there!

OK, that’s it for this week. Plenty of other great events happening over the weekend at all the usual spots, so keep an eye on Facebook and check venue websites listings. Hopefully normal DC House Grooves service will resume next week!

DC House Grooves Top Picks of the Best Underground House and Electronic Music Events in Washington DC March 21 to March 24

Very little time this week, so I’ll need to make this quick. Before I get in to this week’s happenings, I want to give a quick mention to a worthy fundraiser that I hope you can contribute a few bucks towards. Andrew Prince aka DJ Amp, a major contributor to the electronic music community in Baltimore and DC, had around $20k’s worth of sound gear stolen from him last week from a venue in Baltimore. Andrew provided sound for our Beats Maneuver events at Public Bar last summer, and it was always a pleasure working with him. Andrew is gives so much to the community, supporting many different events and crews, and it really isn’t right that this happened to him. That equipment is his livelihood, and it really sucks that someone would do this. It is a testament to the local music community that a fundraiser set up to replace the equipment has raised nearly $10k in less than a week, but there is still a ways to go. if you can spare even a few bucks, please consider donating. Andrew is good people, and it’s not right that this should happen to him. A few bucks from everyone will help make things right.

Donate to the Fundraiser for Andrew Prince

Also, here is a list of the equipment that was stolen. If you hear of anyone trying to sell this gear, get in touch.

OK, on to more positive things. Another great line up of events here in Washington DC this weekend, and as always, you find all the flyers below, Thursday through Sunday. The DC House Grooves crew will be at it again this weekend on Underground Quality Radio with another edition of the DC House Grooves Show. The show kicks off at 10pm ET on Saturday, tune in on the Underground Quality Live YouTube channel, or the Underground Quality website.

Other than that, a quiet weekend for me and Katrina Mir. No gigs lined up for the foreseeable future, but we’re keen to get out there, so please get in touch if you’d to add some DC House Grooves to your party. You know it makes sense!

See below for the full list for this weekend. Plenty of great events to choose from, and I’m sure there’s something for everyone. See you out and about!
