Tune in from 10pm ET at dchousegrooves.com or undergroundquality.com.
Ok, without further ado, here are this weekend’s DC House Grooves Top Picks. Plenty of great options for getting your dance floor fix, Thursday through Sunday. See you on the dance floor!
The thing about Thanksgiving every year is I have to publish my Top Picks a day early, which completely messes with my routine. Despite a mad scramble, I’ve just about managed to pull something together in time for the earlier deadline, and in this fine post right here you’ll find my Top Picks for Thanksgiving Weekend, including all the pre-Thanksgiving parties Wednesday night. Katrina Mir and I are taking things easy over the holidays, but you can catch us on another edition of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radiothis Saturday night alongside the might Ramirez. As always, we’ll be streaming video a multi-camera feed live from the Rave Basement here in Washington DC on the Underground Quality LiveYouTube channel. If you’ve not checked out our show before, here’s the video of our last show to whet your appetite. Deep vibes guaranteed.
Here are the links for Saturday’s show, which kicks off at 10pm ET:
Out and about, I’d recommend kicking off the weekend tomorrow night at Give Thanks with Juan Zapata, Samantha Francesca and Itzjack at Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club. Lots of great events to choose from on Wednesday, but Jimmy‘s is your best bet for quality underground vibes to get Thanksgiving started off right.
Usually on Thanksgiving itself there aren’t any decent events to give you an excuse to get out of the house and avoid those post-Turkey blues, but this year you can head to Public Bar for Saeed Younan‘s Sintimate Rooftop Sessions with Technasia, Saeed Younan and Alex Eljaiek. Rumor has it, they’ve got a sexy new disco ball lighting up the rooftop, so get dressed up in your best disco threads and get ready to throw some shapes. Advanced tickets are just $10.
Firiday night, head to Flash for the amazing Jan Krueger with support from N/UM & SolomonSanchez, with Philip Goyette in the Green Room and Samantha Francesca and DSD in the Flash Bar. One of my favorite DC clubbing memories was hearing a mental set from Jan Krueger at Jimmy Valentine’s, as paint chips rained down from the ceiling onto the turntables. Good times. I can only imagine what Jan is going to do with Flash‘s amazing Funktion One system.
Saturday night, after listening to the DC House Grooves Show, head back to Jimmy Valentine’s for the first edition of Super Tuff! with Martín Miguel, Hot Coffee b2b DSD & M. Vaughan. If you haven’t checked out the first release on M. Vaughan‘s Super Tuff! label, I can highly recommend it, with great tracks from Jesse Bru, DJ Aakmael, M. Vaughan and Moony Me, and with the super solid Super Tuff 002 just released, things are looking bright! Definitely an exciting label to keep an eye on, and I expect Super Tuff at Jimmy’s to deliver the goods. Do it!
As always, on Sunday all roads lead to Eighteenth Street Lounge, with Sam “The Man” Burns holding court in the Gold room, Smudge working his magic in the main room, and Flash‘s Edo joining Benoit for Sundays Rooftop out on the patio. Always a good time at Sunday’s Rooftop!
Here’s my full list of Top Picks of the best underground house and electronic music for the weekend. Plenty to choose from to keep you grooving throughout the holiday weekend. Whether you’re going out or staying in on Saturday, remember to tune in to the DC House Grooves Show, and I’ll see you back here next week for another edition of DC House Grooves Top Picks. See you on the dance floor!
Wednesday November 22
Give Thanks with Juan Zapata, Samantha Francesca & Itzjack at Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club
Sadly no time for my usual Top Picks post this week, so I’ve just thrown together a few essential picks for the weekend. I’ll be joining my DC House Grooves Show co- residents Ramirez and Katrina Mir plus WTF!?! Show‘s DJ Kochi in the Green Room at Flash on Friday for VIBE. Can’t wait to throw down with my favorite DJs, and if that line up wasn’t tasty enough, brother Symmetrical will be exhibiting some of his amazing original works of art. Join us on the rooftop from 10pm on Friday. Seriously thick vibes! Flash Bar on Friday looks tasty, too, with Detroit’s Appian making his DC debut alongside Boss Ross and Mike Harvey. Serious tunes, open to close.
Here are a few other picks for the weekend. Preview with DJ Meegs at Flash and Playlist with Jubilee & Ramirez at Eighteenth Street Lounge have you covered for Thursday. Saturday, head to Flash in the afternoon for Kim Ann Foxman with local support from Vanniety Kills and Sean Morris, then stick around for Culoe De Song, Chris Burns and Trevor Keen in the main room, Manfredas and Sergio Santos in the Green Room and another edition of Dusk in the Flash Bar with DJ Soul, Chosen and Henry Da Man. Soul Love at Ten Tigers Parlour is another solid bet for Saturday, with Baltimore homies The Elders joined by Vanniety Kills and Paradox legend Wayne Davis. Serious house grooves all night! Sunday, close out your weekend at Eighteenth Street Lounge with Sam Burns, Keenan Orr, and Sundays Rooftop with resident Benoit and a live set fromChicago’s Obsolete Music Technology.
That’ll have to do for this week. Hope you can join us for VIBE in the Green Room at Flash on Friday, and I’ll be back next week with a special Labor Day edition of DC House Grooves Top Picks. See you on the dance floor!
Another hot weekend in the District, and, as always, DC House Grooves has done the hard work for you picking out all the best events featuring quality underground house and electronic music, Thursday through Sunday. No gigs for me this weekend, but you can catch my good lady wife Katrina Mir on Thursday at Playlist with Jubilee & Ramirez at Eighteenth Street Lounge, then again at Daytime Discothèque with Reggie Dokes, Pacific Fur Company, Katrina Mir and Samantha Francesca. Really excited to hear Katrina Mir spin at both these events, and I highly recommend you join us.There’s no cover for Playlist on Thursday, and DC House Grooves has a special 15% discount off Daytime Discothèque. Early birds are still available right now, so move fast! Advanced tickets are required, so you might as well grab them now. Gonna be an amazing vibe at the spot this Sunday, so don’t sleep!
Also on Sunday is the Deep Secrets / Sound Waves collaboration, the SoundwavesBoat Party with Daniel Bell and Benoit. If you’re up for quality underground grooves cruising down the Potomac on Sunday afternoon, the grab the DC House Grooves 15% discount:

OK, back to this weekend! On Sunday evening, the Good Buddies crew takes over the patio at Eighteenth Street Lounge, and this time around residents Philco and Jandro are joined by Funkdamentalist and Soul Sway from local label Silence in Metropolis. In anticipation of Sunday’s Good Buddies, episode #56 of the DC House Grooves Meet the Locals Podcast features the latest mix from Soul Sway, a one hour deep groover, the highlights of which include a Soul Sway original plus a DJ Aakmael remix on Silence in Metropolis. Head over to the DC House Grooves SoundCloudpage for the full track list.
Also, in case you missed it, here’s episode #55 of the Meet the Locals Podcast by yours truly. Two hours of quality minimal and underground grooves recorded for my road trip last weekend.
OK, here’s my full list of Top Picks for the weekend, Thursday through Sunday, quality events one and all. I’m particularly looking forward to Grand Ancestor’s One Year Anniversaryon Saturday! Grand Ancestor parties are always worth your time. I’ll be back next week with my picks of all the best events in and around DC.
