Still buzzing from Late Night Maneuvers with Turtle Bugg last Friday! Major thanks to everyone who brought their energy to the dance floor. I for one had an amazing time dancing with you guys. I haven’t lost myself in the music like that for a very long time. The Bozak powered Grand Ancestor Sound System was performing at it’s absolute best, and all the DJs really delivered the goods, from Kochi‘s opening set to my B2B2B with Ramirez & Katrina Mir to Turtle Bugg‘s fantastic all vinyl headline set.
Turtle Bugg at Late Night Maneuvers
Those who stayed to the bitter end were even treated to an impromptu reggae set from Mr Grand Ancestor himself, Yola. Huge thanks to TeamZapata and everyone on the crew for helping make it such a special night. Certainly one I won’t be forgetting any time soon. At some point, I’d better check out the recording of all the sets. Something to look forward to! Beats Maneuever is back at 12|30 Lounge on Saturday November 17 with NYC’s Yuko Jikido and support from Deep Secrets‘ Benoit and UDP‘s Andrew Hogans. Yuko destroyed the dance floor when she played for us earlier this year at Public Bar, and we’re looking forward to her giving us another proper work out at 12|30 on November 17. Mark it in your calendar, and we’ll see you on the dance floor!
OK, I know most of you aren’t here to read me rambling on about last week’s party or pimping my upcoming events. You just want a chance to win a pair of free tickets to this Friday’s sold out ROAM V Year Anniversary Party with Ben UFO, Lauren Ritter, Lisa Frank, Sami, Rush Plus & Taiga. Well, without further ado, here’s the link to the DC House GroovesROAM V Year FREE ticket giveway:
As mentioned above, tickets to this can’t miss event are completely sold out, but you never know, there may be a ticket or two popping up in the Resident Advisor resale queue. If you don’t have a ticket yet, best of luck finding one. It’s gonna be an amazing night celebrating 5 years of Washington DC’s premiere warehouse event!
OK, here are the links to my DC House Grooves Top Picks for this weekend, Thursday through Sunday. Plenty of great underground house and techno events to choose from this week, so make sure you plan your dance floor strategy carefully!
Beyond the ROAM V Year Anniversary Party, other highlights for this weekend include Flash‘s warehouse join with Dubfire B2B DannyTenaglia, also on Friday, then on Saturday, all roads lead back to the spot for another edition of Late Night Mischief, Early Morning Love with San Francisco’s Jimmy B alongside Juan Zapata and Joe L. Three incredible DJs working the Grand Ancestor Sound System until sunrise. Doesn’t get much better than that! Early birds are just $10, although if you roll up before 12am, you can get in FREE!
Sunday night, Eighteenth Street Lounge, as always, is the place to be, with Sam Burns‘ weekly residency in the Gold Room, and out on the patio, another edition of Sundays Rooftop with Yoyaku’s Roger Gerressen and resident Benoit. A great way to wrap up your weekend on the dance floor!
That’s all for this week’s edition of DC House Grooves Top Picks. Check back next week for news and info on all the best underground house and electronic music events in and around Washington DC, Thursday through Sunday.
With Halloween just about in the rear view mirror, it’s time to start thinking about the weekend. Good thing there’s another action packed line up of events right here in DC to keep you dancing Thursday through Sunday! We’re super excited about Beats Maneuver‘s partnership with Late Night Mischief crew, Late NightManeuvers, this Friday November 2. We’ll be taking over an intimate warehouse space in northeast DC and bringing the one and only Turtle Bugg (Sublimate) down from Detroit to really show us who’s boss behind the decks. A true DJs DJ, we can’t wait to hear what he’s got waiting for us in his record bag!
With the Beats Maneuver resident DJs on support, you can be sure of a musical evening to remember; Kochi will be warming things up, kicking off with the slow jams, teasing you on to the dance floor. Next, me (Andy Grant), Ramirez and Katrina Mir will be dialing things up with one of our epic back to back to back sets, the three of us feeding off each other’s energy for a fantastic, vibe filled journey. We’ll be priming the floor perfectly for Turtle Bugg to take over and keep things jumping until the morning comes. And did I mention we’ll be working the Grand Ancestor 2.0 Sound System? Not only that, we’ll be powered by the amazing Bozak AR6 Mixer for a fully analog signal path from the turntables to the speakers. Sound quality matters, and we’re going to be working hard to make sure the system sounds as good as can be, bathing you in warm analog goodness for an immersive experience that you won’t soon forget. There are still a limited number of $10 early bird tickets available on Resident Advisor, after which standard advance tickets are $15. On the night, entry will be FREE before 12am, $20 from 12am to 2am, then $30 after 2am. However, if you RSVP at http://bit.ly/TBUGGRSVP, you can get in for $20 all night. If you’re not sure if you can make it, might as well RSVP now to lock in the $20 rate.
Oh, and did I mention our advance ticket prize draw? Beats Maneuver is giving away a FREE, Near Mint copy of Luxuru by Ronin from 2002 on the highly sought after Driftwood record label worth well over $60 to one lucky winner. Before I get into the rest of the top picks for this weekend, I want to give a big shout out to the ROAM crew who are celebrating 5 years of quality underground events next Friday, November 9, with the ROAM V Year Anniversary, featuring none other than Ben UFO and Lauren Ritter with support from ROAM residents DJ Lisa Frank, Sami, Rush Plus, Jett Chandon and Taiga. If you don’t feel like leaving things up to chance, if you move fast, there are still some $20 first release tickets available, but don’t hang around, they won’t last long. Here’s to many more years of ROAM!
Besides the events mentioned above, highlights this weekend includePlaylist with Jubilee & Mazi at Eighteenth Street Lounge and Sleaze at Wonderland on Thursday, Acid People with Furtive, Bastet, Juana & Ron Jackson at Jimmy Valentine’s on Friday, then on Saturday hit up Sunset and Chill at Olde City Farm before heading up the Flash for Ryan Crosson, Cap & Mazi R in the main room with Mike Harvey and Steve Kirn in the Green Roomand Vibe with DJ Kochi and DJ Meegs in the Flash Bar.
If you’re in Baltimore on Saturday, I highly recommmend checking out Soul Love Dance Party with The Elders at Factory 17. Always a fun time with the Baltimore family!
Sunday night, we’ll be supporting Katrina Mir and the Rooftop Sessions crew at Public Bar, but Eighteenth Street Lounge is always worth checking out for quality house and disco each and every Sunday. Catch Sam Burns in the Gold Room and Hold Tight with Martín Miguel open to close out on the patio. A great way to close out your weekend on the dance floor!
That’s it for this week’s DC House Grooves Top Picks. Don’t forget to grab your tickets to Late Night Maneuvers with Turtle Bugg, and we’ll see you on the dance floor at the warehouse this Friday! See you back here, same time, same place next week for all the best info on underground house music events in Washington DC, Thursday through Sunday.
It’s Columbus Day holiday weekend, and if you’re one of the lucky ones who doesn’t have to work on Monday, we’ve got a treat for you on Sunday night! DC House Grooves in partnership with Roots & Spirits, UDP Music and Vibe bring you another edition of Beats Maneuver featuring real house music from none other than the mighty Jephté Guillaume (Spiritual Life Music) with support from Ramirez on the upper level, and on the lower level, KayLaSoul, Baronhawk Poitier (TNX) & yours truly, Andy Grant. After our summer rooftop party series celebrating the very best of house music at Public Bar, we’re looking forward to taking things indoors at our new spot, 12|30 on 9th Street. With a holiday on Monday, we’ll be going late for this one, so join us at 10pm on Sunday, and be ready to shake it on the dance floor. Early bird tickets at just $10, more on the door. A serious bargain for a line up of this caliber!
We’ll be warming up for Beats Maneuver on Saturday night with another edition of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio with me, Ramirez & Katrina Mir, kicking off at 10pm ET. As always, we’ll be broadcasting audio from the Underground Quality website, but for video we’re taking the show back to the Underground Quality LiveYoutube page. Lots of great new music to share, so tune in from 10pm ET on Saturday and let us get you ready for a night out on the dance floor!
If you’re not familiar with the DC House Grooves Show vibe, then check out 5.5 hour after hours session featuring me, Katrina Mir and Ramirez. Quality house music from beginning to end.
So what else is happening in Washington DC this weekend? Nothing short of a metric fuckton of incredible events, that’s what. Thursday night is some kind of stupid, what with and early show featuring George Fitzgerald live followed by a late show with Catz’n’ Dogz at U Street Music Hall, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs at Flash, Playlist with Jubilee & Sarah Myers at Eighteenth Street Lounge and Sleaze: You Go Ghoul at Wonderland. Take your pick, they’ll all be top notch! Too many to list on Friday, but I recommend getting down to some minimal vibes with Petre Inspirescu, Ghost, Taiga & Throe at Flash, then heading to the warehouse for LNM: Jesse Bru, Bokeh, Samantha Francesca & Team Zapata delivering the underground goodies on the incredible Grand Ancestor sound system for afters. Advance tickets are recommended, and there are still some $10 early birds available. However, if you’re planning on just rolling up, I recommend you add yourself to the RSVP list for $20 entry on the door. If you’re not on the RSVP list, door tax will be a steep $30. Seems like a great policy for reserving the dance floor for the heads.
Saturday night, once you’ve warmed up listing to the DC House Groooves Show on Underground Quality Radio, out on the town Edward, Oskar Offerman & Jubilee at Flash promises a good time, but if you’re looking for the full warehouse experience, ROAM, UNTER and The NeedlExchange are joining forces for Capitol Punishment with Volvox, Jasmine Infiniti, Olga, DJ Lisa Frank, Tommy Cornelis, Jett Chandon, Bil Todd, Chris Nitti & Baronhawk. It’s like a Justice League of techno, with the crews joining forces for a full 12 hours to fight for truth, justice and the American way, through the medium of untz, or something. As always, advance tickets are highly recommended. Needle drops at 10pm, and the sweet music continues until 10am Sunday. They aren’t taking any prisoners with this one. Be ready for punishment!
Sunday night, well, you know. Beats Maneuver with Jephté Guillaume Live, Ramirez, KayLaSoul, Baronhawk and Andy Grant at 12|30 on 9th street NW. ‘Nuff said! Advance tickets just $10. Grab yours now! The perfect way to decompress with something a little more organic after a night of pounding techno at the warehouse. And, of course, there’s no work on Monday! Hope to see you there.
The highlights above barely scratch the surface of what’s going on this weekend. For the full list of DC House Grooves Top Picks for each day, click the links below for each day. You can’t really go wrong with any of them.
That’s it for this week’s edition of DC House Grooves Top Picks. Please consider joining us at Beats Manuever on Sunday, and whatever you end up doing, I hope you have an amazing time. See you on the dance floor!
Just about recovered from another amazing weekend, which we kicked off back in the Green Room at Flash for We Dig Vinyl with Elliot Sloan, Symmetrical, Wade Hammes, Katrina Mir and your friendly neighborhood DC House Grooves correspondent right here, Andy Grant, slinging nothing but wax all night long. Everyone dug real deep in their collections, and we got to hear some really interesting records that don’t often get played out. If you’re curious about where we find all these great records, or if you’ve got some great underground wax to share, make sure you join the We Dig Vinyl: An Underground Music Bulletin group on Facebook. Always learning about great new finds in that group!
Sunday night saw the season finale of Beats Maneuver at Public Bar, with an amazing all-female line uo featuring Club Cuttlefish‘s Sleepy G with a killer opening set, Katrina Mir setting things up beautifully for a fantastic set by headliner Lyssa, and KayLaSoul bringing things to a delightful close. Doing it right, Beats Maneuver style! Huge thanks to everyone who came out, and to the whole team at Public Bar for working with us over the last few months. We’ve had some great times to a soundtrack of great house music this season, and we’re looking forward to what comes next. Make sure you like the Beats Maneuver Facebook Page, and of course, check DC House Grooves each and every week for news and info on upcoming Beats Maneuver events. In the meantime, here’s Rissa Garcia‘s headline set from Beats Maneuver, recorded live on the Public Bar rooftop on August 12.
OK, let’s get down to business. It’s Labor Day Weekend, and there’s a ridiculous number of incredible events happening here in the District and in Baltimore to keep you dancing Thursday through Monday. I can tell you right now I’m not going to be able to give everything the coverage it deserves, but I’ll do my best. This Labor Day Monday, DC House Grooves is a proud partner in the Capital House Music Festival 2018 in Meridian Hill Park. This year’s festival includes an incredible line up of house music and world music, featuring The Ecussionist, Deacon Izzy & the Congregation, DJ Jay Jay, Chosen, Andy Grant (yeah, that’s me), Benoit, Tee Alford, DJ Tantra and Sam The Man Burns. This is a FREE FESTIVAL to raise awareness and funds for Inner City Youth Music Programs. It’s a family friendly event, and all are welcome. Bring chairs, blankets, picnic baskets, refreshments, whatever you need, just be aware that grills and alcohol are prohibited in the park. All the required permits are in place, so we’re all set to kick things off at 12pm on Labor Day Monday, grooving in the park until 9pm. Bring your smiles and positive energy to the park on Monday, and let’s make it a Labor Day to remember!
OK, I know what you’re thinking; Capital House Music Festival 2018 is on Monday. What are you going to do until then? How does an epic disco festival across two venues featuring disco legends from across the globe and two all night parties where you can dance until sunrise sound? Well, that’s just what’s on offer with the Blisspop Disco Fest at U Street Music Hall and the 9:30 Club, with an incredible line up featuring disco legend Giorgio Moroder, Claptone, François K, Holy Ghost, Horse Meat Disco, Ultra Naté, Nancy Whang, Juan MacLean, Jacques Renault with support from locals Eau Claire, Charles Feelgood, Sleaze, Ozker & Will Eastman, and that’s not to mention the closing party in association with Better Listen Records, featuring Daniel T, Matpat, Martín Miguel & StrikeStone! Serious disco bliss to keep you dancing from Friday through Sunday! I have included all the advance ticket and info links for all five events below. Advance tickets are highly recommended to reserve your spot on the dance floor.
Blisspop Disco Fest Friday August 31
Claptone with François K, Charles Feelgood & Eau Claire at 9:30 Club
Those events mentioned above barely even scratch the surface of what’s on offer this weekend! I’ve shared all the best events on my radar in Washington DC & Baltimore to the DC House Grooves Facebook Page, and you can see the full list for each day by clicking on the links below:
I recommend taking your time to look through the list for each day, as there’s some great events lurking in there, including Blueprint with Arthur Kimskii & Jandro at Jimmy Valentine’s on Friday night, Ron Trent at the Darkroom on Saturday, Saeed Younan‘s rooftop extravaganza with Oliver Dollar at Public Bar, Reflections Labor Day Edition at Jimmy Valentine’s, Sunday Love with Tornado Wallace at Flash and V.sions with Laurine & Jubilee at The Fridge Art Gallery on Sunday, and ROAM on a BOAT & Skate Fever on Monday. And that’s not to mention all the events happening leading up to and after Collective Minds in Baltimore this weekend. I’ve included all the Baltimore events on DC House Grooves, but 4 Hours of Funk‘s Graham Hatke provides a great summary in this post over on Facebook. If you’re in Baltimore, or feel like making the trip this weekend, check it out! If ever there was a weekend to head to Charm City, this might be it.
Right, I gotta bring this week’s post to a close. The rest is up to you! Hope you can join us in the park on Monday, and you never know, I may just see you on the dance floor before then. I’ll be back here with another update, same time, same place next week with everything you need to know to plan your weekend on the dance floor right here in Washington DC.
