DC House Grooves Top Picks of the Best Underground House and Techno Events in Washington DC September 5 to Monday September 8

Thank you to everyone who came out to Capital House Music Festival on Labor Day, and major respect to DJ Tantra of Chrysis Entertainment and Chosen for all their hard work putting together such an amazing free festival. Katrina and I were proud to be part of such an amazing event, and it was life affirming seeing such an enthusiastic and real crowd getting down in the sunshine and the rain to an incredible line up of local talent. The day captured what house music is all about, and I’m glad I got the chance to play a small part in it. If you were there in Malcolm X Park on Monday, please consider making a donation to the festival fundraiser. While it is a free event, it cost a fair bit to make it happen, so every little bit helps! Capital House Music Festival will be back in 2020, and next year it will be bigger than ever!

DC House Grooves Top Picks of the Best Underground House and Techno Events in Washington DC July 11 to July 14

Just a quick post this week due to an unplanned trip to London. No time to compile a full list of events, so just a few quick recommendations. Before all that, did you catch Katrina Mir‘s recent podcast for Daisychain? Check it out below: a solid hour of techno served up fresh from the vinyl.

Thursday night, head to Playlist with Jubilee and Ramirez at Eighteenth Street Lounge for quality house music from two of our finest locals. Then on Friday, head straight back to Eighteenth Street Lounge for the first of three events celebrating 10 Years of Deep Secrets with Detroit legend Rick Wilhite delivering a proper dance floor spanking in the Gold Room. Rick Wilhite performed our favorite set of the weekend at the People of Earth / Deep Crates event at Motor City Wine on our recent trip to Detroit, so miss this one at your peril. Serious disco house techno funk, and whatever the fuck else Rick wants to play, for serious heads. Leave any prejudices at the door and be ready to dance! And if that’s not enough, 4 Hours of Funk with Graham and Fleg take over the patio. Serious business at ESL this Friday night.

For late night warehouse kink-techno action on Friday, Sprüdel is back with a line up featuring Young Male, Motive-A and Tommy Cornelis. Advance tickets required.

Sprudel Young Male Motive-a

Saturday night, Navbox and Friends at Flash with Navbox, Jay Prouty and special guests promises to be another great night across three floors, then on Sunday head to Sunday Love at Flash early, then head over the Eighteenth Street Lounge later for Sam Burns, Keenan Orr and Good Buddies with Seth Magoon and Philco. Wherever you end up, if you’re there on the recommendation of DC House Grooves, make sure you let people know! Word of mouth goes a long way 🙂

I’ve included a couple of galleries below with the weekend line ups for Flash and Eighteenth Street Lounge. Plenty of solid underground house and techno between the two to keep you dancing all weekend. I’m sure next week’s post will be another quick one, but some seriously good stuff to look forward to, with Jenifa Mayanja and Katrina Mir in the Green Room at Flash on Friday, and Patrice Scott with me, Andy Grant B2B Ramirez and Benoit on support. It’s gonna be a big weekend!

Big respect to everyone who joined us at Eighteenth Street Lounge last Thursday to celebrate my birthday at Playlist. Now that was a fun time! Big thanks to Jubilee & Ramirez for inviting me to play and to all the staff at Eighteenth Street Lounge for their hospitality. Always a pleasure playing at ESL.

On to this weekend, and we here at DC House Grooves are super excited, because the founder of the Underground Quality record label and Underground Quality Radio where we broadcast our regular show, DJ Jus-Ed, is coming to town! In anticipation of his performance at Sundays Rooftop at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Sunday, Jus-Ed will be joining us in the DC House Grooves studio on Saturday night for a very special edition of the DC House Grooves Show with residents Andy Grant, Ramirez and Katrina Mir, and special guest Jus-Ed. Tune in from 10pm ET at www.undergroundquality.com or at Underground Quality Live.

Other highlights this weekend include Black Motion with Jandro at U Street Music Hall, and, of course, Playlist with Jubilee & Ramirez at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Thursday, then on Friday Sprüdel with Vincent Neumann, Juana b2b Arthur Kimskii and Rush Plus is the move for top quality techno with friends and family in an intimate warehouse space. Just remember, advance tickets are required, and it’s BYOB.

Also on Friday, Flash: OFF features Damien Lazarus & Adriatique with locals Sarah Myers, Markinthedark and Mazi R. Flash warehouse parties always deliver the goods, with high production values and four point sound system in a brand new warehouse space. Advance tickets recommended.

Saturday’s highlight is this year’s Funk Parade. If you’re in the U Street area Saturday afternoon, make sure you head to the annual Funky 4 U at Velvet Lounge. Always an amazing line up of locals bringing the funk out in the back yard. Saturday night, I recommend heading to Baltimore for Underground Resistance‘s John Jammin Collins at Darkroom, or Deep Sugar with Ultra Naté & Lisa Moody at Factory 17. Spoiled for choice!

Sunday afternoon, Sunday Love at Flash is always a good time, then we’ll see you on the patio at Eighteenth Street Lounge for Sundays Rooftop with DJ Jus-Ed and Benoit.
