Here we go with another weekly post featuring all the best events in Washington DC. Nearly five years of weekly posts, and we’re still going strong! DC House Grooves coming in hot at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Thursday, with Katrina Mir joining Jubilee & Ramirez behind the decks for Playlist. With a fresh delivery of wax in her record bag, she’s not planning on taking any prisoners, so do yourself a favor and head to ESL at 10pm to catch one of DC’s finest up and coming talents doing what she does best. Always a revelation when Katrina Mir gets behind the decks.
Friday night, I recommend checking out Club Cuttlefish at Ten Tigers Parlour with DC Voices, Control Freq and DJ Freeze, or perhaps Minesies with Che & Baronhawk at Jimmy Valentine’s. Flash also looks on point, with Cap, N/UM and Jus Nowhere in the main room, J Swink and Charles D in the Green Room and Philco & Tommy Cornelis in the Flash Bar.
Saturday night, kick off your evening at Flash to catch the mighty XDB making his Flash debut alongside Galcher Lustwerk and Navbox. In the Green Room, Benoit & Luke hold things down open to close, with Steve Seagull, Throe and Mike Harvey in the bar.
Later on, all things lead to the spot for Late Night Mischief‘s 420 celebration featuring a fantastic line up including Huerta, Jus Nowhere, Yola and Team Zapata. You’ll need advance tickets for this one, but the good news is early birds are still available for only $15. Don’t sleep!
Sunday afternoon, Sunday Love at Flash and District Inferno with Sam Burns at El Techo are both worth checking out, then on Sunday night, all roads lead to Eighteenth Street Lounge for ESL Sunday with Sam Burns’Underground Soul Solution and Good Buddies with Samantha Francesca and Philco. Always the best way to close out your weekend!
Before this week’s listings, a little bit of music for you. Here’s the recoding on last week’s DC House Grooves show on Underground Quality Radio with me, Andy Grant, Katrina Mir and Ramirez. SoundCloud and YouTube embeds below. Proper underground grooves served up fresh from the wax.
Here’s my full list of Top Picks for the weekend, featuring all the best underground house and techno events in Washington DC this weekend, Thursday through Sunday, and even a couple of drum and bass events for good measure. Facebook users can click the link at the top of each section to see the list of event pages for each day. If you find these weekly updates useful, please help spread the work by sharing with your friends, and come back next week for your weekly guide to all the good stuff on the dance floor in Washington DC.
Just about recovered from an epic weekend last week. Saturday night, in particular, was nuts, bouncing between Flash and U Street Music Hall, catching up with so many people I haven’t seen in forever, and getting to hear quality grooves from DJ Kochi, Throe, DJ Nav, Jus Nowhere, Jackson Ryland, Dimitri Max, Joe L and Markinthedark. Yeah, it was that kinda night. Sadly didn’t make it over to the warehouse for Horse Meat Disco & TNX, but by all accounts that was off the charts! It’s nights like that that remind me what an amazing underground electronic musc community we have here in Washington DC.
So about this weekend… like last week, I’ve gone down the lazy route and just posted everything to the DC House Grooves Facebook Page. Just click these links to see my full list of picks for each day, Thursday through Sunday.
A few things that deserve a special mention this week. First up, DC’s premiere drum and bass crew Cadence were kind enough to invite me and Katrina Mir to drop science in the Green Room at Flash on Thursday with local legends Simon & Sinestro, while Dub Phizix & Strategy bring the drums and the bass on the club level with support from Refugee & Encryption. Advanced tickets are just $12… grab yours now!
Friday night, Uncle Benny & The Sticky Fingers Collective are on board for another epic journey on the After Hours Express, this time with Scissor & Thread‘s Francis Harris, Hot Coffee & Benoit. Always a good time with Uncle Benny! Advanced tickets & info over on Resident Advisor.
Saturday night, we’re at it again with the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio. Tune in from 10pm ET for quality underground grooves from me, Katrina Mir and Ramirez. Whether you’re going out or staying in, we’ve got the right vibe for your Saturday night.
If you’re not sure what we’re about, here’s the video feed from our last show as it happened:
Later on Saturday night, early Sunday, the Sticky Fingers Collective, Better Listen Records, Good Buddies and Kowli Records are joining forces for an epic afters at a secret location in Baltimore. I’ve already said too much; let’s just say you’ll want to be there.
Recovered from last weekend yet? Hope so, because there’s another amazing line up of events right here in DC to keep you grooving Thursday through Sunday. The high point of last weekend for me was catching Andrey Pushkarev with support from Jubilee, Tom & Taiga at Nomad‘s warehouse joint. Always a treat to hear the Grand Ancestor Sound System in full effect! Serious vibes all round. If you haven’t heard the Grand Ancestor Sound System, and you’re curious as to what it’s all about, I highly recommend you check out Grand Ancestor presents Zion Train [UK] and Dutty Bookman [JA] with King Selassie I Sound, MC Hutchy & Grand Ancestor at the same warehouse spot this Friday. Irie vibes on a homegrown sound system.
Sadly I couldn’t make it to the other highlights of last weekend, ROAM XIII or Joe Classell on the Soundwaves boat and at Sundays Rooftop, but from what I hear, it was good times all round. If, like me, you missed ROAM too, then make sure you’re free next Saturday October 7 for ROAM vs TNX, with the ridiculous line up of Palms Trax & Honey Sound System with local support from ROAM and TNX residents Sami, Lisa Frank, Tommy Cornelis, Bil Todd & Baronhawk, making sweet music on Team Zapata‘s most excellent Martin Audio sound system in another amazing warehouse location.
Before I get into this weekend’s festivities, news of a couple of other parties next weekend. On Friday, there’s Church of Secrets with Detroit legend Alton Miller supported by me, Andy Grant, Benoit & HOT COFFEE at a super secret location. I can guarantee you we’ll be singing hallelujah many times before the night is out! This one’s on the down low, so if you’ve not received an invite yet, seek and you will find.
To close out next weekend, Deep Secrets & The Stars in association with Lil Soso Productions present Let Me Show U Love with New York disco veteran Danny Krivit and local heroes Adrian Loving & Tommy Cornelis at U Street Music Hall on Sunday night, October 8. Early bird tickets are just $10, and all profits will be donated to benefit the victims of hurricanes Maria, Irma, and Harvey. Doesn’t get much better than that; a legendary music line up working one of DC’s best sound systems, and all for a great cause.
OK, enough about next weekend, already! What about this weekend? Looks like another incredible weekend on the dance floor in DC. I’m not sure we’re worth of all this goodness! You can catch me getting back in the saddle behind the decks on the patio at Eighteenth Street Lounge Thursday night with my brothers Jubilee & Ramirez. Looking forward to throwing down with the Slope Traxx crew, and I hope to see you on the dance floor!
On Friday night, the ladies are at it again at another edition of Ladies of the Underground at Ten Tigers Parlour featuring Fabiana, Sarah Myers and Vanniety Kills. It’s going to be another amazing night of music at Ten Tigers, and it’s all for a good cause, as proceeds will be donated to the ACLU & Planned Parenthood in memory of Cassidy Karakorn. Also on Friday, over at Flash, it’s Kerri Chandler‘s birthday, with the man himself playing open to close in the main room. Last time Kerri was at Flash was one of my favorite nights ever in the main room, and I’m sure on Friday night he’ll take things to the next level. Completing the line up at Flash on Friday, Philip Goyette & Juana hold things down in the green room open to close, and Zamkov, Alex Noize & Billy Manor bring the vibe in the bar.
Saturday night, get yourself warmed up for a night on the town by tuning in to Episode #10 of the DC House Grooves Show on Jus-Ed‘s Underground Quality Radio with me, Andy Grant, Ramirez & Katrina Mir. We’ll be live from 10pm ET, bringing you the finest underground sounds. Whether you’re staying in or going out, we’ve got the right vibe for your Saturday night.
Out on the town on Saturday night, take your pick between Antal & Ron Trent at Flash celebrating 20 years of Rush Hour Records, or check out acid / wild pitch legend DJ Pierre‘s afro acid showcase at U Street Music Hall, then close out your weekend at Sunday Love at Flash, featuring Vancouver‘s The Mole, supported by A-list locals Navbox, Jubilee, Taiga & Throe. Doesn’t get much better than that!
Here’s my full list of DC House Grooves Top Picks for the weekend, Thursday through Sunday. Plenty to keep you grooving all weekend! Check back here next Thursday, same time, same place for details on all the best underground house and electronic music events in and around DC. See you on the dance floor!
