Join residents Andy Grant, Ramirez & Katrina Mir for another session of quality underground tunes live from the studio in Washington DC on episode #105 of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio. Tune in on the Underground Quality Live YouTube channel, Saturday December 4th from 7pm ET.
Wow! Amazing times on the rooftop at Public Bar on Memorial Day Sunday at the first edition of Beats Maneuver. Gigi Testa threw down an amazing set of serious house vibes with classics a plenty, while supporting DJs KayLaSoul, Andrew Hogans, Ramirez, Kochi, Katrina Mir and yours truly all brought their A games, keeping that dance floor jumping for 12 hours straight. Huge thanks to everyone who came out to support this first collaboration between Roots & Spirits, Vibe, DC House Grooves and Public Bar, and a very special thanks to the team at Public Bar who worked hard throughout the event to make sure everything ran smoothly. If you couldn’t make it on Memorial Day Sunday, the great news is that we’re back at it this coming Sunday with our second edition of Beats Maneuver, this time featuring Trinidadian Deep (Prescription / Future Vision), with support from Mate Masie, Neko Berg and resident Ramirez, and for this one we’re only charging $5 cover on the door open to close! That’s right, a seriously hot lineup, a fantastic rooftop venue, and only $5 cover. We hope you can make it to Beats Maneuver at Public Bar this Sunday for what promises to be another amazing night on the rooftop! Doors open at 6pm.

OK, shameless promotion of my shit out of the way, here are the links to this week’s DC House Grooves Top Picks, featuring all the best underground house and electronic music events in and around Washington DC, Thursday through Sunday. Just click the link for each day to see my list of Top Picks for that day.
As always, an amazing set of events to choose from. Thursday night’s highlights include Playlist with Jubilee and special guest Mazi R at Eighteenth Street Lounge, while at Flash, the Cadence crew return with a spectacular line up headlined by drum and bass legend LTJ Bukem, Robert Manos & T.R.A.C., with local support from Vanniety Kills, Tim Jackson and Blak Lotus. Up in the Green Room, Aaron Sparks, Mikey Dubs and the mighty Team Zapata keep the house music vibes strong open to close. Sounds like a proper celebration for the birthday trifecta Jen Jackson, Aaron Sparks and Vanniety Kills! A very Happy Birthday to you all from DC House Grooves!
Firday night, Flash looks like a great bet, with Marsian LIVE (Marc Houle & Sian) in the main room, Sarah Myers and Juan Zapata open to close in the Green Room, and funk, boogie, disco and soul from Trev-ski & Haz of the MoDERN CLASS crew in the bar.
Saturday evening, I recommend checking out a new concept from Raptorstein, featuring chill music vibes and fire performances as the sun goes down, the Sunset & Chill Fire Jam & Dance Party with Raptorstein, Anandroid & Zamkov, plus performances from Revolutionary Motion and Ardiente. Hosted at the Olde City Farm on Rhode Island Avenue, and only $5 cover all night, this promises to be a super chill way to get your Saturday night off to a great start.

Saturday evening, Eighteenth Street Lounge looks hot, with my old college pal Dicky Trisco flying in all the way from Dundee, Scotland, to hold things down on the patio open to close.
Flash also looks like a great bet, with Amir Javasoul, Navbox and Throe bringing the heat on the club level, while Zamkov & Philco keep things jumping in the Green Room, and Jandro & Hakob do their thing in the bar. Quality on all three floors, as always.
For after hours action on Saturday, all roads lead to ROAM Barely Legal, which sees the ROAM crew celebrating their 18th event in style, with another world-class line up featuring Dr Rubinstein, local hero Max D of Beautiful Swimmers / Future Times fame, TNX‘s Tommy Cornelis, Taiga & Oliver Caine. As always, there’ll be banging Martin Audio sound, zero tolerance for assholery and guaranteed vibes all round.
On Sunday, I’d obviously love it if you came out to support us on the rooftop at Public Bar for the second edition of Beats Maneuver with Trinidadian Deep, but there are a few other great options. If I wasn’t busy with Beats Maneuver, I’d be sure to check out The House That U Built at El Techo with a classic THTUB all-star line up, including Sam Burns, The Elders and Vanniety Kills, and I’d be sorely tempted to get myself a ticket to the Soundwaves Boat Party with NDATL‘s Kai Alcé and Benoit B2B Edo. Always a magical time on the Soundwaves boat, and with Kai Alcé at the helm, you know you’re in good hands, Advanced tickets will sell out for this one, so be sure to grab one now to reserve your spot on deck.
If you end up on the boat, you’ll have plenty of time to join us on the rooftop at Public Bar for Beats Maneuver with Trinidadian Deep after the boat docks at 9.30pm. The perfect way to close out an amazing weekend on the dance floor!
That’s it for this week’s edition of DC House Grooves Top Picks. I’ll be back, same time, same place next week with everything you need to know about what’s good on the dance floor right here in Washington DC.
The thing about Thanksgiving every year is I have to publish my Top Picks a day early, which completely messes with my routine. Despite a mad scramble, I’ve just about managed to pull something together in time for the earlier deadline, and in this fine post right here you’ll find my Top Picks for Thanksgiving Weekend, including all the pre-Thanksgiving parties Wednesday night. Katrina Mir and I are taking things easy over the holidays, but you can catch us on another edition of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio this Saturday night alongside the might Ramirez. As always, we’ll be streaming video a multi-camera feed live from the Rave Basement here in Washington DC on the Underground Quality Live YouTube channel. If you’ve not checked out our show before, here’s the video of our last show to whet your appetite. Deep vibes guaranteed.
Here are the links for Saturday’s show, which kicks off at 10pm ET:
Out and about, I’d recommend kicking off the weekend tomorrow night at Give Thanks with Juan Zapata, Samantha Francesca and Itzjack at Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club. Lots of great events to choose from on Wednesday, but Jimmy‘s is your best bet for quality underground vibes to get Thanksgiving started off right.
Usually on Thanksgiving itself there aren’t any decent events to give you an excuse to get out of the house and avoid those post-Turkey blues, but this year you can head to Public Bar for Saeed Younan‘s Sintimate Rooftop Sessions with Technasia, Saeed Younan and Alex Eljaiek. Rumor has it, they’ve got a sexy new disco ball lighting up the rooftop, so get dressed up in your best disco threads and get ready to throw some shapes. Advanced tickets are just $10.
Firiday night, head to Flash for the amazing Jan Krueger with support from N/UM & Solomon Sanchez, with Philip Goyette in the Green Room and Samantha Francesca and DSD in the Flash Bar. One of my favorite DC clubbing memories was hearing a mental set from Jan Krueger at Jimmy Valentine’s, as paint chips rained down from the ceiling onto the turntables. Good times. I can only imagine what Jan is going to do with Flash‘s amazing Funktion One system.
Saturday night, after listening to the DC House Grooves Show, head back to Jimmy Valentine’s for the first edition of Super Tuff! with Martín Miguel, Hot Coffee b2b DSD & M. Vaughan. If you haven’t checked out the first release on M. Vaughan‘s Super Tuff! label, I can highly recommend it, with great tracks from Jesse Bru, DJ Aakmael, M. Vaughan and Moony Me, and with the super solid Super Tuff 002 just released, things are looking bright! Definitely an exciting label to keep an eye on, and I expect Super Tuff at Jimmy’s to deliver the goods. Do it!
As always, on Sunday all roads lead to Eighteenth Street Lounge, with Sam “The Man” Burns holding court in the Gold room, Smudge working his magic in the main room, and Flash‘s Edo joining Benoit for Sundays Rooftop out on the patio. Always a good time at Sunday’s Rooftop!
Here’s my full list of Top Picks of the best underground house and electronic music for the weekend. Plenty to choose from to keep you grooving throughout the holiday weekend. Whether you’re going out or staying in on Saturday, remember to tune in to the DC House Grooves Show, and I’ll see you back here next week for another edition of DC House Grooves Top Picks. See you on the dance floor!

Wow! That was my reaction last Thursday night seeing the crowd on the patio at Eighteenth Street Lounge for Playlist. What an amazing vibe! Huge thanks to everyone who came out to groove with us on the patio, to the team at ESL for helping everything run smoothly, and, of course, to my brothers Jubilee & Ramirez for inviting me to throw down with them. It was awesome running into a few DC House Grooves readers in the crowd, too! Great to meet you all, and hope to see you again soon. I don’t think I’m exaggerating saying Playlist is currently the best weekly event in DC featuring local talent. Congratulations to the Slope Traxx boys for what they’ve built over the last couple of years. Here’s to many more amazing nights on the patio! They will, of course, be at it again Thursday night, and for this week’s edition, Flash‘s Navbox joins Jubilee & Ramirez for another excursion through all things deep. Not to be missed!
Saturday night we were at it again on another edition of the DC House Grooves Show on Underground Quality Radio. Fun times in the Rave Basement with two of the best DJs I know, Ramirez and Katrina Mir. See below for the video recording of last week’s show, and we’ll be back at it again on October 14 with Plastik People‘s Marc Cotterell joining us as our special guest. Check out next week’s post for details.
OK OK OK what’s up with this weekend? You’re spoiled for choice on Thursday, with Playlist at Eighteenth Street Lounge, while across town at Flash the Preview crew are going late night with an all start local line up including Christauff, Dreadbang, Jon_MFD, Meegs, Rich Thomas, Rosenberg & Thursday People, and it’s all for a very worthy cause as all proceeds from the event will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Looks like another great night on the rooftop at Flash!
Also on Thursday, U Street Music Hall kicks off their new series of events at Ten Tigers Parlour with the mighty Ben UFO headlining with local support from the 1432R crew. Advanced tickets are just $15, which is a bargain for such high caliber talent. U Street Music Hall has already announced Denis Ferrer at Ten Tigers Parlour on December 1, and I can’t wait to see who else they’ve got lined up for this exciting event series.
Friday night is all about Church of Secrets with Detroit legend Alton Miller supported by Andy Grant (that’s me if you didn’t realize), Benoit & HOT COFFEE at a super secret location. Hours of worship are Midnight until the early hours of Saturday, and I can guarantee we’ll be raising our hands to the heavens and singing Hallelujah many times before the night is out. Early bird tickets are just $10, so grab yours now before the price goes up! Gonna be a really special night at the Church of Secrets.
Saturday night brings another edition of ROAM vs TNX, with a stellar line up featuring Dekmantel‘s Palms Trax & Honey Sound System with local support from ROAM and TNX residents Sami, Lisa Frank, Tommy Cornelis, Bil Todd & Baronhawk, making the magic happen through Team Zapata‘s most excellent Martin Audio sound system in another amazing warehouse location.
For a taste of what to expect, check out Palms Trax‘s recently announced release on Giles Smith and James Priestley‘s Secretsundaze imprint, which premiered on Mixmag‘s SoundCloud page just yesterday:
If you’re up for something a bit more intimate without a cover charge on Saturday, then head over to Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely Hearts Club for Alive & Well with Sarah Myers, Philip Goyette, C Felinski & Philco. A fantastic local lineup at everyone’s favorite dive bar with a Martin Audio sound system. If this crew doesn’t get you grooving, I don’t know what will.
For Sunday afternoon grooves, look no further than the Sunday Love closing party at Flash with Bedouin, Edo, Marko Peli, Meegs, Narko & Navbox. Sad to see Sunday Love wrap its first season, especially as I didn’t get a chance to play there this year, but already looking forward to next season. Make sure you head to Flash on Sunday afternoon to catch the season closer. Advanced tickets are all sold out, but there should be some available on the door as capacity allows.
Also happening early evening on Sunday is the inaugural Headroom Sunday Party at Ten Tigers Parlour, featuring a line up of talented artists who have showcased their sounds at Chadwicks‘s monthly Headroom event at Flash. The event kicks off at 5pm with a line up including Analog Tara, Darius Twin, District & Circle, DJ Winterman, JP Jed, Nebo, Sid Waters & Symmetrical. There’s no cover, but donations at the door are strongly encouraged. Starving artists gotta eat! Please make the effort to come out and support DC’s thriving community of electronic music artists. These cats are gonna go far!
Sunday night wraps up with perhaps the highlight of the weekend, with Deep Secrets & The Stars in association with Lil Soso Productions presents Let Me Show You Love, a fundraiser for the Hurricane Maria relief effort featuring New York disco legend Danny Krivit, with local support from Adrian Loving and TNX‘s Tommy Cornelis. A long list of local crews are partnering to bring you this event: DC House Grooves, Good Buddies, Prescription, Nomads Only, Chosen, Mont.age, Loop, Sticky Fingers Collective, Deep Sugar & Kowli. With such an amazing list of party crews involved, you know this one’s going to be really special! Early bird tickets are still available for $10, so move fast before the price goes up. I couldn’t think of a better way to close out the weekend while raising funds for a great cause. Proceeds will be donated to Unicef‘s hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico, with 90% of every dollar raised going directly to children.
UPDATE : Let me Show You Love has been cancelled
Enough chat for this week. I’m exhausted writing about it, and now I gotta go out and do it! When I look out at the dance floor from the booth at Church of Secrets on Friday, I hope to see your smiling faces present and correct on the dance floor. Make sure you come and say hi! Here’s my full list of picks for the weekend, along with flyers and info links. Come back next week for the lowdown on all the good shit going down in DC. See you on the dance floor!
