Huge thanks to everyone who joined us in the Flash Bar on Saturday for the second part of our DC House Grooves4 Year Anniversary celebration. It’s always kinda slow in the bar, but as always the last hour or two was crazy! Let’s face it, with Patrice Scott and Benoit in the Green Room and Giles Smith & James Priestly of Secretsundaze on the club level, there was tough competition for dancers, so I don’t think we did too badly. A testament to the world class quality talent Flash is booking, week in, week out. Big thanks to the team at Flash for inviting us to play. Katrina and I truly appreciate it. Massive thanks also to Vanniety Kills for inviting me to play at The House That U Built at El Techo on Sunday, to the whole team at El Techo, and to all the dancers who joined us on the rooftop. After an amazing set from Juana, I had a really special time breaking out the soulful house and disco as the sun set on a beautiful day! Thank you so much to everyone involved. Hoping to post the recording soon! Look out for the next The House That U Built with Vanniety Kills, Sam Burns and Kochi coming up in August.
The big news announced this week is the Blispop Disco Fest coming up on August 31 and September 1 at 9:30 Club and U Street Music Hall, featuring a line up to die for, with Giorgio Moroder, Claptone, Holy Ghost, Horsemeat Disco, Ultra Naté, Nancy Whang, François K, Juan Maclean, Jacques Renault and locals Eau Claire, Charles Feelgood, the Sleaze DJs, Ozker & Will Eastman. How many legit legends on that line up? A serious weekend of music right there! The only problem now is deciding whether to attend the 9:30 Club line up or the U Street Music Hall line up. Now, with line ups of that calibre, it ain’t going to be cheap, but if you move fast, you can grab discounted 2 day passes for both the 9:30 Club and U Street Music Hall.
Better move fast, though! Discounted passes go off sale Thursday July 12 at 9am!
Back to this weekend, and we here at DC House Grooves have some big news of our own. This Sunday we’re partnering with Roots & Spirits, Vibe and Public Bar for another edition of BeatsManeuver, and this Sunday we’ve got an epic line up featuring Chicago’s DJ Heather with support from Team Zapata and residents Kochi & Katrina Mir. This one’s shaping up to be the best one yet, and we couldn’t be more excited! Proper house music, rooftop vibes, and best of all, it’s completely FREE! That’s right, no cover all night long for a line up of top class talent. Doesn’t get much better! The needle drops at 6pm…see you there, bright and early, and let’s see in the new week on the dance floor!
For a taste of what to expect on Sunday, tune in to the a DC House Grooves special edition of the WTF?! Radio Show on Friday from 5pm at www.sugarshackrecordings.com. Quality tunes from myself, Katrina Mir, Ramirez and Kochi to get your Friday night started off right!

Right, here’s this week’s DC House Grooves Top Pick links. You know the drill, just click each link to see my Top Picks for that day over on Facebook. Worth taking the time, as there are some great events this weekend!
Highlights for this weekend include Playlist with Jubilee & Discuji at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Thursday, then on Friday, I recommend kicking things off with Sunset & Chill 3: Return of the Chill at the Olde City Farm & Garden, then either checking out Todd Terry with Kundalini at U Street Music Hall, or heading up Ten Tigers Parlour to celebrate the release of Analog Tara‘s Fundamentals EP on 1432R Records. Expect a quality DJ set from label bosses Sami%SuYung, and a live set from Analog Tara. One for the heads!
Saturday afternoon, all the cool kids will be heading to the Anacostia Park Roller Skate Pavilion for the second edition of Skate Fever with music from and all-star local line up featuring Benoit, Hot Coffee, DJ Soul and DC House Grooves’ very own Katrina Mir. There’s no cover, skate rental is free with ID, and it is family friendly. The perfect way to spend a summer Saturday afternoon! See you there.
Saturday night’s highlight is an epic double header from Flash & Nomad featuring a serious line up of musical talent. Kicking things off at Flash, the V.sions Pre-Party features Berlin’s Thomas Melchior & Taimur Agha headline the club level with support from Navbox, while Mazi R & Jubilee hold things down open to close in the Green Roomand Steve Kirn & Juana keep the vibe locked in the bar.
Then for afters, all roads lead to the warehouse for Noman & DNT present V.sions with Molly, DJ Masda, Navbox, Taiga & special guests delivering the goods on the banging Grand Ancestor Sound System until sunrise and possibly beyond. Always a good time at the warehouse! Serious business all round.
For something a bit more intimate on Saturday night, check out DJ LoveGrove‘s birthday throwdown at Jimmy Valentine’s Lonely HeartsClub, featuring LoveGrove himself with support from Lexus King and Guillermo Giraldo. The perfect choice for quality tunes away from the crowds.
Another great option for Saturday night is Summer Solstice Part 2 with Shelter‘s Mark Francisbringing the heat alongside Andrew Hogans and Chosen at The Meeting Place Restaurant & Lounge. The party kicks off at 7pm and runs until 3am. Real house music for the heads.

Ready for another epic weekend? Well you’re living in the right city, because this week DC’s got a ridiculous line up of events to keep you grooving. Before we dive into all that, though, we’ve got a few things to cover. First up, we’re looking for contributors to DC House Grooves. If you’d like to cover some aspect of our scene here in DC, or you’ve got some ideas for quality content relevant to our mission, please send us a message through the DC House Grooves Facebook page.

Next up, we wanted to let you know about a party we’re throwing on the Dirty Bar rooftop on June 7, Body Werk Summer Sessions with Amir Alexander (Vanguard Sound), Andy Grant & Ramirez. Our Body Werk parties were always intended to focus on local talent, showcasing the best underground house DJs DC has to offer. However, when the opportunity presented itself to bring Amir Alexander back to DC, we just had to take it. A true soldier of the underground, this is one DJ who completely immerses himself in his craft, feeding off the energy of the dance floor and delivering an experience to remember. We caught him earlier in the year at Panorama Bar, and it left such an impression that we knew there and then that we had to bring him back to DC. He’ll be ending his 3 continent tour to promote his amazing new album Love and Fear with us right here in DC at one of our favorite rooftop venues, and we’re sure it will be a party to remember. With local support from Andy Grant and Ramirez, visuals by [capsaicin] and sound by Jackson Pro Audio, we’ve put everything in place for a great Sunday on the rooftop. You can find full details over on the event page, and we’ll be making reduced price advanced tickets available soon.
We also wanted to encourage you to check out the latest updates about FORWARD 2015: Infinity. Less than a week to go until this year’s FORWARD Festival kicks off with their opening ceremony at The Howard Theater, so we recommend you head over to their Facebook page and figure out which events you plan to attend. We’re proud to be partnering with FORWARD on the Forever Endlessparty on Saturday May 14, featuring Guillaume and the Coutu Dumonts, the legendary Gene Hunt, The Grove DJs, Andy Grant and R&B. It’s going to be a killer evening of quality house music, and space is limited, so we recommend you pick up advanced tickets as soon as possible. This is one you don’t want to miss!
Ok, with that shameless self promotion out of the way, let’s get on with what you came here for. You know the drill by now. First up we’ve got our picks of where we think you’ll find the best dance floor action this weekend, followed by full listings of all the events going on in our great city. To be honest, there’s almost too much going on these days, and short of cloning yourself, there’s no way to catch it all. If we don’t cover your event, please don’t read anything into it; we want to cover them all, but we just don’t have the time!

‘Crime Watch’ w/Chadwick, Ed Metaphysical, Joe L, Caspian & Meegs at Zeba Bar
There’s a right scary bunch playing up at Zeba Bar on Friday. This line up wouldn’t be out of place down your local police station: Chadwick, Ed Metaphysical, Joe L, Caspian and Meegs, all miscreants in their own right, but when they get together, serious trouble can’t be too far away. Do your bit to protect our community and throw some shapes with them on the dance floor on Friday night. All locals, no cover, our kind of party. 21+.
Lee Foss with Juan Zapata, and Edo at U Street Music Hall
Another great lineup at U Street Music Hall on Friday: Lee Foss headlines, with local support from Juan Zapata and Edo. We’re not the biggest Lee Foss fans here at DC House Grooves, but we know he’s got a following. The real attraction for us here is the local support from Juan and Edo, so we recommend you get there early, take advantage of the free admission before 11pm, and catch both their sets.
